this has to be one of the most productive beds here on BYAP (ignoring EB's that is :) )

Gee thanks guys. Tis a pretty productive bed - am very much looking forward to the toms getting ripe, so will have to make sure I watch out for grubs. If only I could find the time to get my other 3 beds up and going, the family would be eating a lot more fresh stuff. There's a lot of things I would like to try that others seem to have had successes with. Unfortunatelly I don't really have the space ATM for winter veg - maybe next year :-).

Been bloody cold and windy here last day or 2 and rainy before that. Result is that the tank has dropped to 13 degrees celcius this morning. Will be HSM mode soon I feel.

I chucked a bit of food in just to see whether they would eat. THere was some activity. I can't be sure that both silvers and Jades had a bit, but I think they might have.

I haven't been turning off at night yet. Still haven't drilled the hole. Gotta get this organised and put the air pump back in for DO through the night.

Yes Stu. It is said they will feed little under 20 degrees. I am not sure what temps they survive at - significantly lower than that I suspect. I'd love to know if the Jades were taking food this morning. At the speed they move it is difficult to tell whether the ones taking the food were silvers and jades or just silvers. I drilled the hole I need in the siphon inner pipe today so that I can have the pump on a timer to turn off at night and the remaining water in the bed will drain out the little hole (at least that is the theory). Temp was still only 15 degrees at the end of the day - so will be interesting to see what it is in the morning. I will put the digital thermometer out by the tank to see what the minimum temp outside is tonight.

Further to the last post regarding turning the pump off at night now to conserve temps - here is a bit of an update:

Plants are still growing well. The lettuce have started to take off now and I will be eating the first within a week or 2. The Paw Paw fruit is getting bigger gradually - though most of them have lots of spots of weeping sap on them - not sure what that is all about. I wonder whether they are even fruiting at the right time of year, I must google it. The toms are getting bigger also. There are heaps of fruit and I do hope they ripen.

All the other plants are doign well also. Here are some pics:

File comment: Here is a full bed shot. The Paw Paw is pretty big now. I will be very interested to see the extend of its roots when I pull it out. It is shading a lot of the other plants, which is not a good thing at this time of year. I may have to consider pullin

File comment: This is the best shot I could get to demonstrate the density of fruit on the bush (look hard). They are a full sized tomato (not a cherry). They seem to be shaped like a roma - but are not romas.
