That was my problem JP, I had a 30 gal tank that stayed really clear and looked good, so I didn't change the water like the others. I had a fish die, so I got busy testing and found the PH dropped between 5 and 6, so water got changed and now every body is happy again.

I have a theory that high nitrates are why this happens or that the tests are affected by the high nitrates.

Interesting, we'll have to road test this one!

Damned pre morning coffee firefox spell check...................;)

OK, are we all ready for the monthly BYAP benny hill show? (sorry american friends, this may be lost on you).

I went out to mull around the system this morning while sipping a coffee.....as you do.

Pretty much all silvers and jades have died and even the tandans are looking a bit sad due to the tank now getting to 4C becasue i'm running the pump 24/7 for the trout which by the way, are happy as larry.

Ok, i decide that the tank needs a bit of a top up which will hopefull raise the temp by a degree or two. Cue up benny hill music please.

IBC is filling while i'm pottering around, check it a few times ok, it take a while to fill. last check sees a huge increase in level, "has it been that long?" i think. oh well, walk 20m to turn off the tap and come back to find the water level EVEN HIGHER, about an inch from over flowing!

WTF??? (turn up benny hill music louder)

As i stand there and contemplate the water level hits the TOP of the IBC!!!!!

Then it dawns on me ......................les, you're going to LOVE this one!

View the pic below and see if you can work out what has happened before reading the next post ;)

Ok, so for those that didn't work it out, the continuous flow drain from the trout spa got turned into an autosyphon as soon as the water level sealed the bottom of the return pipe!

(PLEASE PRESS F5 NOW)

I madly ran around thinking

"angle grinder, no, not enough tje to set up extension lead!"
"turn off pump! No, thats not going to help!"
"hack saw. shit i don't have any blades!"

I ended up using a wood saw to lop off the bottom of the return pipe, which in the end had already finnished syphoning leaving about 3 inches of water in the spa and a completely full yet not over flowing IBC!

LOL such fun you can have with AP

Roll credits ;)
