The Barra are looking to be about 20cm long judging by their size compared to the brick the pump sits on in the bottom of the tank.

Been feeding them twice a day (night) with 4 to 5 handfulls of 6mm pellets.

Just thinking of how to tidy it al up a bit...

Is that 4-5 handfuls... a day.... or each feed???? .....

Are there uneaten pellets either on the bottom of the tank, in the growbeds, or the filter?

Have you checked your filter lately??

How often are you cleaning the filter?

Two feeds a day of 4 to 5 handfulls each feed.
I put one handfull at a time and wait till each one is almost gone before adding the next.
There are usually a couple of pellets left over but not many (enough to count on one hand...)
There are 40 od, approx 20cm barra in there.
If they are not taking all the pellets from the handfull I will leave it at that, so not every feed is as much. Having said that some times they will keep eating more.

My water is pretty clear but I turn it over a lot.
One 6000 lph pump runs 24/7 through a grow bed and 200 litre biofilter with a 12mm airation t in the outlet line and another runs the flood and drain grow beds intermitantly about 9 hrs in 24.
If it looks a bit tibbid I will let the flood and drain pump run solid for a few hours and that clears it up.
Also I use the f/t water to water other garden plants so it gets a fresh water top up of a couple of hundred litres a week.

Thanks OBO... :D
Cant wait till my growth looks more like yours...
(I am talking about the growth in your grow beds :compress: )

Sorry - I clean the filter when it is dirty - only about once a month so far.
and then only the top half has been a bit full of solids...

Just scored a big aquarium!
Will have to figure out how to use it in a new system.
It's 3m long by about 600 deep by 500 wide.
Sits on a 1m high stand.
Am thinking of using it under a patio and incorporating grow beds full of shade loving ornamental plants and filling it with Koi and Goldies...
Or put Barra in it and keep it heated? I may get in trouble when I eat them but. I am sure Danielle would name them and claim them if she could see them...
Very stoked :D

I just changed another continuous flow bed to flood and drain.
Should be an improvement all round...
Does the full moon accelerate growth or did my plants just start to settle in well?
Seems to be a boost in plant growth lattely...

Hmm, I think the system may be settling in and I am seeign what it is capable of. I cant wait till it is in full flight... I think it did grow a bit faster over the days of the full moon though.
i had heard rumours of it making a difference but didnt really think much of it...

How long do tomatos take to get ripe in your system OBO?

Actually the moon doesn't help at all.
..reproduction of ALL living things, germination, seed production, best time to harvest,
best time to sow, and a miriade of other thing seem to respond
favorably in certain times of the month/year
and that happens to be indicated by the moon. Mere coincidence
Now shoot me down in flames if ya want... :blackeye: :blackeye:
but I will say it again.
The infuence of the moon triggers nature to do it's thing...
Get onboard or forget it.

If you need more info to convince you then you need to spend more time with your eyes open than shut!

dogs 63days 2.25 luna months (28days in a luna month)
cats 63 days 2.25 luna months
cows 280days 10 luna months
humans 280 days 10 luna months
horses 343 days 12.25 luna months
elephants 645 days 23 luna months

If you wonder why you didn't know these things, it's because we lost our calendar...
and our connection with mother nature :flower:
Your Mums' Mum & Dad would have known.

Back on track Waning moon helps root growth.
Waxing moon helps growth above ground............................................................................

I see what you are saying about the moon being the indicator not the sole cause...
What are the references between cats, cows etc and days to do with?
Probably get on board and benefit or be ignorant and stumble along would have been more apt?

But not just the bit you quoted the most relevant part

I didnt understand what you are on about with the different species and days that is why I quoted that and asked about it...
What are the days in reference to?

I have just reread my few posts...
Sorry for being gruff
It's just how I am, very passionate about doing things 'in sink'
with nature...
I'd prefer to be working with, than against the forces. 8)
IE: planting lettuce wont work in a waning cycle, they will bolt.
This is because every cell in the body of a lettuce knows to be ready for the
full moon with seeds for the next cycle... a waxing moon where growth above ground
will happen.
On the other hand, at the right time of the year potatoes will do very well if planted
on a waning moon.

The animal - mammal thing is about knowing the timing
and associated influences of our kingdom.
( I could have been very boring and continued the list )

...and we all knew them once apon a time.

As time has sped up and with little time available to see the seasons change...
the fruit set...seeds set... birds hatching etc etc and the moon is barely visible because of the city lights..
we have lost our way with nature.

You, and we, are in a great place to be more in tune with larger forces than the bank
for example, if we so choose to do so.
I hope this has increased your awareness and not just 'cheesed you off'.
Not my intention. :blackeye:
