Witnessed my first feeding frenzy this morning :D I also had to drain some water out because of all the rain we had overnight :D I have an inground pipe Teed from the pump to my roses to make it easier.

At present, I only feed once a day I'm still trying to determine how much is enough. I know it should be only what they can eat in 5 minutes.

p.s. It's raining out west on my property as well :D :D

Excellent Derek.. :)

You'll find that you get used to the feeding in no time at all, I don;t even think about it, it's just second nature..

Derek, was there a reason you didn't go with yellow belly, (perch?) I read recently they are very territorial.

Derek - feeding frenzies are fun. ALthough I enjoy my 30 perch hitting the food hard (not all at once unfortunatelly) I am looking forward to a time when I have 200 big fish fighting for the food. Now that will be fun.

TT,

it was more because they are very hard to train to take pellets. I spoke to two hatcheries both indicated I could expect heavy losses until trained. At this early stage in AP, it would be very demoralising to have a catastrophic failure. I've lost 2 SP in a week so far and that has me on edge. Territorialism was more of a concern when I proposed Murray Cod.

cheers

Were the silvers smaller than average? They may have been on the way out already. I lost 1 of 21 due to getting beat up by his contemporaries. Don't s'pose u took any photos?

The latest photo of phase 3. More growbeds to add above growout pond. Tibetan Prayer Flags 'cause my fish need all the help they can get.

There are two independent systems in place, both with the same standpipe design that hasn't faultered once in 6 months.

More blue barrell growbeds are planned once I strengthen the beams above the black growout pond. In the growout pond and duckweed pond I also have Kang Kong and Water Chestnuts. The floating box has a common sedge in gravel filled native tubes.

Another update, my system got visited during the week by several Ibis and they feasted on 30 silvers and 3 goldies :-( I take full responsibility for my actions by not covering the large pond. I have since rectified that oversight and have ordered another 100. This next batch are the last of last seasons fingerlings and are larger. I will also bring another 4 growbeds online.

I no longer live at home and apart from feeding, my system has been running unattended for the past month. The flood and drain system has worked well and continues to be productive.

cheers

The latest photo update. The celery and kang kong have taken off and the lettuce and silverbeet are going well also.
