I have to ask.....Did you hit it on purpose with the car? At what speed? How long were the skid marks? ;)

Hi jtjf

I'd considered concrete but discarded the idea because of challenges of pouring the stuff. The thought of all the boxing, getting the reo in the right place and the chance it might crack made me nervous. Would you be able to post your research? Separate thread maybe in the hardware section?

Stuart.

i think C1 has commented before that there has to be pretty much no deley in the concreteing process, ie one continuous operation. C1 sorry if i got that wrong? ;)

hehe... so you read that other post then steve.

I will always atest the concrete virtue, pour continuous and there should be no cracks, should an interuption ocur the crack can be repaired.

I have made a few tanks and fixed a [s]few[/s] several hundred, I never try t fix laminated conc tanks, too many layers and if the top layer is cracked all the others will too.
my 2 bobs worth

but back to Ems thread...

wouldn't a concrete tank do the same for Ems as it does here? Provide a large stable thermal mass to protect the water against wild temperature fluctuations?

Did a quick search and found C1's detailed post on conrete tanks

Quote:
If you need advise on concreting there are a few granos here who could steer you in the right direction.
As a for as curing them, 28 days is what the books say, but freelimes will keep coming out for years.Water is the best curing compound.
Also heaps of nooks and crannies.
Easy to clean quick to construct hard as nails.
20000 gal tank consumes about $1500 of concrete.

That is pretty cheap. If I could be convinced that I could do the pouring an all I'd give up the idea of the plastic liners.

Stuart.

Stu- I bet there is a hire firm near you that would have forms for tanks, prolly some sitting in someones back yard(HEY F&F).
Figure you'd want it half inground about a metre above is prolly not much more than those with above ground tanks. Easy discharge.
Mesh is easy to install with plastic packers.
You could make the centre conical, strong as.
Heaps of tanks down here were made before they had more than one truck 5 cu mtrs. (12 cu 20000)More than 30 y ago and there still standing holding water, bit better than the crappy liners that stuff up after 6-7 years with a 30 year warranty that isn't worth the phone call to check.

The price quoted may have changed a bit check out the cost of 5 cu 25/20 where you are.
