The flowers shriveled up after I already had some fruit on the plant..... but I know nothing about pollination......

I just put some CC in this morning, I'll go check it again now...

I think the problem with my cucumbers is that the flowers don't always open up enough. I had the same problem with dirt grown pumpkins once.

There's probably a thread (or 50) on the forum about pollination.

I think there is also another thing called "bottom end rot" that might be something to search for. If I recall correctly it's caused by a deficiency of something.

That is some excellent produce you guys have been getting.

As has been mentioned, if you are adding charlie carp and reading 0 ammonia and nitrites then your bacteria colony is doing its job. All you need now is fish :) If you are also showing 0 nitrates, then adding a bit more charlie carp wont hurt either. IMO it is better to get as strong a bacteria colony as possible before adding fish. Also, IMO, it does not hurt to have a constant nitrate reading, it wont hurt your fish and it is like having nitrates in the bank, if you can not add charlie carp for a few days.

One thing to bear in mind, if you are using charlie carp instead of fish and you are showing 0 nitrates, then it will appear as though your system will 'stall' faster than someone with fish. The fish are always producing ammonia, however charlie carp isnt. Whether that is a cause for you plant problems i dont know though... :dontknow:

Is there ammonia in Charlie carp?

Or is it just mulched fish bits that break down into ammonia?

If it's just fish bits, does it all break down at the same time, or is there a delay for some of it?

If there is no ammonia in it, and it just takes a little while for charlie carp to break down, that might explain why your ammonia levels are still up.

This looks like a question for SuperRup.

Well, I have a bowl full of chillies, and we've had 4 more eggplants since my last post :-)

We did have our first disaster this week! with the fluctuating weather, the hose came off of the pump during the night and pumped all the water out onto the floor. luckily the goldfish were unharmed, though a little stressed, and the pump didn't burn out....
