Hey  water only peaked at 20°C today, thanks to the cooler nights.

I see Friday is going to hit 33°C, but it looks like a narrow spike and has quite lower temps either side of it.

Hang in there Chillidude, keep the ice on hand. Its so amazing that our country has such huge variances in temperature. I'd kill for temps in the 30's at the moment. but then I wouldn't have had my trout so early.

Although I wish I could give Barra a go, I think our cooler climate would be more difficult to control than you guys over there keeping trout.

Pretty sure it's Udumalapet Rupe.

Other than the skin, they don't differ really. Taste the same. Good hardy variety, they I do have a grub here that burrows into them some times, but not enough to really concern me.

Thanks Charlie - don't worry, you'll get there - look at the start of this thread and you'll see that I know what you're going through.

OK, current AP related project - The Fish Cleaning Station

Progress so far.....

Are you human?: Some times I wonder
Location: Waldron, Arkansas USA
Hi Chilli
I just finished reading your thread. I am impressed. I think it really helps to have some education in the fish sciences to help make it work right.

Lots of good food coming form the GB and some fish too. I was really disappointed for you at the loss of your fish from the loss of power. I have not put in a battery backup yet for my air pump but will after I build my Hoop House cover. I plan to remove the battery from the unit and wire in a deep cycle RV battery for the long runs of no power. I think I can get a small unit that will allow 100 to 150 watts output pretty cheap. The batteries are the expensive part.

I am lucky here in the US we seldom have long power outages unless there are violent storms then power could be out for weeks while it is being repaired. In 2000 the ice storm here in North West Arkansas area had power out for up to 3 weeks. There are a lot of all electric homes here also. It was not good for some people. I was living in Houston Texas when that happened. A lot of the trees on this place were killed by the ice load on the limbs. It bent and broke the cores of the trees and then the bugs invaded the trees.

G'day Don

Thanks for the comments. Yeah aquatic biology has always been something I've been interested in so it makes a nice combination of interest + practical application.

Yeah, it's an interesting observation. Powerouts are certainly not that uncommon in the Perth hills, but I've been there 16 or so years now and cannot recall anything lasting more than a few hours, prior to that 30 hour loss a few months back. So while it was a bad one relatively, it pales in comparison to the something lasting several weeks like you're talking about. That would certainly change how we lived for a while !!
