If I left the tap running overnight it would probably just top my system off.

A system update......the fish are going strong....and growing out well....

BUT we made a fool hardy mistake and took all the shade off too early....some of the garden is really struggling ....so I will replace half of what I had up ....to ensure morning sun and afternoon shade....

Temps out side now are about 38 oC

A plague of grasshoppers flew in last night....there was one, then ten, then it's million mates all made there destination :!:

So I will most probably encase the whole system in scaffolding net mesh to keep the little blighters out.....living in the Pilbara outback.....there always seems to be anouther pest on its way through here, for their survival...

If you have the timer with the 15min pins. Just add a few more cycles for the day part. 2x 15min fload times per hr over the hotest part of the day. Can add more dry time of a night if you want.

The plants would be quite happy with being flooded all day, however heat retention may become a problem, because the pump will need to be off most of the night to give them some 'dry' time, limiting water cool down ability. I would strongly recommend making some of the BYAP standpipes into siphons. This gives you the option of running the system 24/7 if required.

I would be very interested in seeing plant growth differences between the two. I have tried both, and I reckon that siphons give better growth than standpipes, and both are way better than continuous flow.

One thing with enclosing the whole system, you need to maintain pollination. Native bees would be good for this, I dont know their temp range though.

hey? All the time? And for how long?

They do it ok for about a week, but after that there is a marked difference between the constantly flooded beds, and flood and drain ones.

Flooded 24/7 might be okay if the water has a high o2 level. Some of mine are 24/7 flooded but I have the standpipe 3/4 of the way to the top.

A long time ago I said I would flood continously for the team experience,
just to see what will happen, so far so good.

The system went in may17 2008.
I don't think anyone has actually made any coments in relation to that :?
Sorry for the hijack Jess.
