Thanks for the explanation Les. Could advise on a better option to keep the cover out of the water - but yours will do the job so I won't :D

You could always stick your fishing rod in there when you're not using it to catch your fish, then drape the shadecloth over it.....

Hummm think I might mention that ..... LOL

okay, need to trim it down then...out with the chainsaw

I was also looking at a method that would cover the top pipe so fish couldn't do a double pike into the inner pipe

Update:

Pic1 of my aqua hat  - think it lost summit in the translation
The new tank is holding 1,200 litres (2/3 full) - just need some more rain to fill it
The GB behind the tank will be moved to the new position one when the 2 new GBs are capable of taking the nute load

Pic2 - new GBs progressing nicely, waiting for the plants to grow sufficiently to take the nute load off my old GB and move the gravel to the front GB in the pic
Laid the base for the next 3 GBs - more gravel washing

Pic3 - found this monster in my 1st system, measures 200mm (8"), remember digging up an earth worm back in November and tossing him in - looks like he enjoyed his new place of residence (now in GB2 of new system)

David - my view is that composting worms are better suited. I put just a few in my GB and now I have hundreds. Everywhere I did I find worms and/or worm capsules. They are great at cleaning up leftover roots, as well as the fish wastes of course.

I is amazing to see how many worms are in the root balls of plants when you remove them. Find myself picking them all out so they don't get lost - though I suppose the solution would be to either leave the balls ontop of the growbed for a bit - or chuck the whole lot in the worm farm.

Yep Dave, compost worms are the go...I'm just a bit slack on that ATM, keep putting it off to allow the GBs to mature, same excuse I use for my AP hat

Do you have any compost worms Les - you won't need many to get started. See if we can find you some when you come over on Wednesday.

VB do you think that the worms go better if your system is working well?

The worms will need a reasonble level of DO (disolved oxygen) in the water. What do you mean by working well Beaso?
