That's a good point about the salt Milne - last time I put any in was at the start of summer, so around November.

Of course, the fish win, particularly as I will start harvesting next month - the first after running the system for 13 months !

Have made the decision - we're going to eat the redfin, when I get the system ready for the trout that TM is bringing soon.

I moved 'em a few weeks back and though I've had 'em for about a year, they're only about 150g. Wasn't sure at the time whether we had young ones or stunted ones - guess I know the answer now :evil:

and, they tasted really very nice. Nothing done to them but floured and pan fried !

But small, around 150g - no photos as I'm just not putting photos of those up here in my thread.

Also, tested my water quality, on the weekend, for the first time in about 8+ months;

Amm: 0
NO2: 0
NO3: 0
pH: 6
Temp: 24°C

Good to see the system maintains itself once it's established

Mate, I'd probably rank 'em at a bit better than snapper - say, flathead !

Didn't do anything too 'em other than a little salt.

There is an increasing interest in them here because they are such good eating - and a damn tough/hardy fish as well. Even more so than silver perch.

They're farming them at Collie and there's a guy up at Gingin starting with them as well. I'm looking at doing my MSc research project on them as well.

Thanks Rupe - yep, have got some of their stuff already.

Probably gunna look into producing triploids, growth enhancement, and increasing growth homogeneity through non-GE manipulation techniques.

i'd be happy to help out the tasting, or take a few samples home to ensure increased growth rates are also observed in other environments :roll: :mrgreen:
