Ah Ha my feelings are right.....no air pumping into the tank just then...for what ever reason....putting back the original two pumps ........would of lost the fish over night for sure.....

If it doesn't feel right ( IMHO ) check it and fix it

Just because it come with an 8 way manifold, does not mean it will run 8 stones lol.

Try it with one block first, then add them until you reach the airflow limit at your depth.

Bent over 5 mm tube :)

I usually join the tube onto one of the other unused outputs. Ends up looking like a loch ness monster manifold lol.

run two or more lines down and join them just before the air stone.
Logically this will reduce friction, and therefore the maximum depth you can pump to will increase.
I'd love to have the hypothesis confirmed though ;-)

Come on kuda think like an engineer one air line two air lines 10 air lines 1in airline 1mm air line it still takes a certain pressure to pump to a required depth you may get a slightly higher volume but that's all

Due to the friction of the sides of the pipe Milne, resistance is increased. Back pressure is merely resistance.

Run a long enough length of pipe, and you wont be able to pump the air even 100mm below the surface (in theory) as the resistance in the pipe will provide more work for the pump than the pump can output.

I just don't know if the resistance in 1m of line is negligible or not. However I fear it will be noticeable, as the lines are generally so small for aesthetic purposes.

Afraid your theory is up the creek had to do an experiment 1 .5 meters and 300 meters of the same pipe [standard air line pipe well its what i use ] connected to the same manifold 2 air stones gradually lower into 1 metre of water there's no noticeable difference of the bubbles and to check i changed air stones and tried again also my air pump is struggling to pump 1.1 metre
Forgive me i am not having a go at you i am just stating the facts as i said before i have done a lot of work with pneumatics years ago

Your point is still valid F&F.
I just got an air pump and its a noisy beast so i think its going in the shed now and it can pump air from there since you have proved minimal loses :) .

Its far easier and cheaper to run 1/2 in or 3/4 in if going a distance just like the first photo

Then you can run more off the one pump [ie better volume]
