The word is that farmed fish are less impressive than wild caught ones - particularly those where some salt is present.

Hey anything grown in your own backyard is impressive. I mean really, 2 years ago I would never imagined that I would be growing any eating fish outside the back door. It really is quite an attraction and healthy and fun and rewarding. Isn't it funny how anything or person when given a lot of hype does not always live up to the mark, sometimes the expectation is greater than the end result. Barramundi fetch a high price in the shops and that adds to the dollar benefits of a backyard aquaponic system. I just take each fish on their own merits and enjoy learning about how to best prepare each type of fish, they all have different personalities too. Who would have thought? :-)

I love my backyard aquaponic system Just walk outside and see what you can find to throw into an omelette. This one contains cheese, spinach, garlic, chives and parsley. So quick and easy. :D

I had some guys from up north visit the shop a few weeks back, they considered Barra to be a "crap fish" for eating, but each to their own..Nice omelette Faye..

ahhh - I reckon it's all bullshit. Stu seemed to think his were pretty good. I've gotta say though - that I'm keen to get Jades again next season. I'd originally been put off a bit by the oily flesh, but since I've been filleting and skinning most of them and using them in all sorts of different recipes, like my very quick and easy stir fry and the red curry, they've come back into favour for me. So much less high maintenance than the barra also adn of course omnivorous. Having said all that, I'm keen as mustard to get these barra onto my plate - so need to pull the finger out and hook up more beds.

Faye,
that omelette looks great...I agree with your comments...nothing like choosing most of your meal requirement from outside the back door. :)
With my wife in hospital for the past week, I still have not needed to visit the supermarket at all. 8)
Meat from the freezer and vegies from the AP system. Can't wait for my SP's to grow.
BTW I saw a mention of sweet potato from your Friday report...are you growing that in AP?...if so would like to know what media it is in.

The sweet potato is growing in expanded clay and is producing a lot of green growth, not sure when the tubers might form. I have never grown them before. It is a nice spillover plant so it looks great.

Aussieponic I grew english spinach last winter and it had huge leaves. I also swear by Fordhook giant which is a variety of silverbeet. It does amazingly well all year round.
