Great to hear they taste good Murray.

I was looking into my barra tank last night and telling the big ones their time is nearly up, and they looked up at me with those beady eyes I told the greedy one he was first! I will be eating some before going away in case anything tragic happens while I am away and the system is being babysat.

Muzz, good to know they taste okay - did you do any purging or straight from tank to plate?

Good to hear Murray. Tilapia meets your requirements, but of course is not an option for us.

Les, I did purge for 3 days in 150 ltr fresh water and about 1 cup of salt. I am going to try the next one without purging just to see the difference.

Reason why I asked is that I found *this site* 1st paragraph relates to purging (length of time/salt content).

Looks like the hospital/isolation tank is gonna be put to another use

VB, I thought I should answer here.

I have the 500, give or take 20 or so, in the 2300 ltr tank and I have the 100 Murray Cod in a tank sitting atop my main tank, so there is actually 600 in the system. I just can't help it Doctor, I have to try everything !
I am adding another grow bed (Gravel) to help balance the nutrient load. At the moment I have to carefully feed so not to produce ammonia spikes
I have the bio-filter performing a double function. I am running it off one of those 8000 lph Italian pumps and the water goes through the filter and it is split some back into the main tank and some to the Murray Cod tank on top to provide extra aeration.
Once a week I clean the filter and the solids (sludge) that comes out is amazing. This goes directly on top of the gravel grow beds.
Man you should see the worms I now have in the gravel grow beds, heaps of them.
Murray

AM, Those ones are about 18 months old. I got them when they were about 13 months and were about 1.1 kg.
I have a good number of Jades, 20 or more, (ones that managed to escape my early killing sprees) that are aproaching the 1 kg mark now.
Some of them (Silvers) have gone to the great tummy god.

You gotta be happy with getting those fish to 1kg Murray. My biggest would only be 500 grams I reckon, but I haven't weighed them for ages - too hard to catch. Considerring that my feeding regime was heavilly restricted for months - I am still happy to have got to 500gms in something like 6 months.

Now that I know how big yours are - I am itching to catch one of my biggest and throw it on the scales. Maybe they are heavier than I am estimating.

It is a bit hard to weigh the little mongrels, they do not sit still. I weigh them in the square catch net, by hanging the net by the handle on a set of spring scales.
Delgrade, I bake them in the oven, don't want to waste any. I am no good at filleting fish.

Hey Beezo, how are you going mate ?

The Murray Cod are doing just fine, they are growing well. No, I have not lost any to each other as yet. I also have 20 Jades in the same tank with them. The Jades are about the same size , so I will see what happens over time with that arrangement.
The Murray Cod behave differently to the Jades and Silvers. The Jades and Silvers are on the move almost all the time , whereas the MC tend to stay in the one place all day. I have one particular MC that stays in the same position vertically all the time. He waits there for me to come and drop pellets right into his mouth, and he is lazy, if I am a bit off target he just lets the pellet drift by, if I am on target he just opens his gob and sucks it in.
They are now looking good, getting a bit of size so as to be able to clearly see their distinctive markings etc.
