New roots are typically white and brittle, like asparagus. After a month or so they will become tough. I only transplant cuttings when the things have had at least a couple months of growth and have gone dormant.

Milne, that's temporary. The other three tanks are yet to be connected, and when the other growbeds are brought online, 50mm will no longer cut it.

@cjinVT
Here's the elderberry I uprooted today.
As you can see it has fibrous roots, but not many.

It appears mint is not the only thing that can take over a growbed.
This is a boysenberry less than a year old.

One yesterday. Last one. Not that nice. All berries are done for the year. Passion fruit has a bumper crop of 10 this year. First real fruiting. They aught to be ripe soon, you'll have to come back for more clay.

Looks great Kuda :]

FYI Lemongrass also takes over GB's! The last one I pulled out of my GB when i shut it down it was a solid root mass for a quarter of the GB that refused to give up all the river rocks even! I think theres a video up of it in my thread or on my youtube I forget which. Mum hijacked it refused to let me pull the rocks out of it, I wonder if she ever got around to making it into a flower arrangement like she wanted.

Anyhew great to see you're trucking along again, don't let the engineer bashing get to you ;]
