Been awhile since I'v updated , but have kept an eye on everyone's post.

all is going well with all systems, My second system has it's 3rd GB and is kicking along great guns. Sliver have been feeding very good now that the water temp has be above 20 degrees. veggies all doing really excellent compared to the dirt stuff. Anyhow got to have some how make a plan to get someone to feed my fish once or twice a week while i'm away for a month. Or anyone got any suggestion in regards to auto fish feeders??

Good to hear from ya Matt, Your silvers are looking good. Do you have any of the ones I swaped ya left? And do you have any trout still going?

Harvested the trout at the end of November due to hot weather then didn't see to many hot days since...

Got mother inlaw feeding the silvers atm all seems to be ok???

Hey mate, how's those trout going? Make it home safely? Mine seem to be growing by the day, I am feeding a little bit too much I think or it could be that I am crushing the food and its creating alot of solids in the system. When I crush the food I am trying to onlyslightly crush the pellets so that there is no food dust thown into the system. I think this just settles to the bottom and never gets eaten.
My levels have started to show increasing ammonia too. So I have slowed my feeding and am actually going away today for 4-5 days so hopefully when I get back everything is back to normal...... Nitrates are increasing too, but nitrite is OK.

ok guys, I know that I have not posted for a while.
Yes I have 25 trout (Thanks Bndybear) and around 40 (70-100mm) silver perch.
All have settled well but over the past week I have lost 3 silver perch.
did the standard thing and stopped feeding and performed water test of which all came up good, water temp between 17c & 14c
after the second one died I salted to 1-2 ppm and took a photo of the not so good looking fish. Today just after I feed them, i noticed another one not looking so good???
performed water tests and took another photo???
They both seem to have a cloudy slime covering them??
anyone got any idea's???

looks like fungi or something . . . i would salt to 6ppt for about 1/2 hour (or maybe a hour - let rupe or eb or someone else confirm the time) then back to 3ppt. its important that you raise the salt quickly to shock the fungi

Do you have a "hospital" tank? If you do I would be salting it fairly high (6ppm as Freoboy says) and give the fish some time in it then transfer them back to your AP tank.

Not sure I would want to salt my AP tank that high as many of your plants may not like it.

Most plants will handle 6ppt for a week... strawberries and cucumbers are only good to about 3ppt....

Sonyou would salt to 6 ppt for a week or just a hour or so?

For a week... you can go beyond 6ppt... to around 10ppt as a "salt dip" for an hour or two.... primarily for fungal/bacterial problems...

Use a quarantine tank... and plenty of air... and remove fish immediately if they show signs of stress...

Then drop them back to 6ppt for a week....

Can't remember who it was... but they recently salted to 10ppt... and forgot... fish were fine in the morning...

An hour at 10ppt is probably enough... I wouldn't leave them overnight...
