My barra's stripe only appears when he is hungry... Once I feed him it disappears.

hi all,

just to make you all jealous, i'm off on tuesday to collect 50 or so silver perch. they are from they same supplier as the barra. same size and same price. apparently these have been bred for fast growth rate. will find out more about them on tuesday. unfortunately these are the last of them so i can't get more for those interested. i will however see if he is going to get more in soon.

on another note the barra are doing great. they are all feeding well on the 9mm feed. not a single fatality after 5 days. i'm pretty happy about that. obviously the system is at it's prime. water temp is 25-30. have been using an aquarium heater to get temps up during the night. will switch them off once the silvers arrive.

all in all i'm stoked. can't wait till harvest.

albeit a very plump and tasty pet. If you don't eat him soon, he'll get big and untasty... best we hurry up eh? ;-)

picked up the silvers. unfortunately there weren't as many available as i would have liked, however i'm happy with what i got. which is 44 healthy looking silvers.

heres a pic i took quickly before putting them into they system. crappy pic i know but i had to take it quick to avoid them stressing out to much.

so in the greenhouse i currently have 55 barra and 44 silvers.

should have some fun come the end of summer.

am tempted to take out a couple barra as testers but will restrain from doing so.

Been down at Sin Strip (aka Gold Coast), visited Shark Bay at Seaworld...just sat there for hours, didn't want to leave. Here are a couple of nice Barra...about 15-20kg, I reckon. Dribbling again...

mature female just about ready to pop. Her abdomen is clearly swollen. No fin rot, no scarring, these guys obviously know how to look after their fish. You musta left the net at home SNAG.

nice barra,

i spoke to the supplier about the barra today and he would'nt be surpised if some of them make it to 1kg before winter if grown well.

been doing my best to feed mine as much and as often as possible.

it will be hard not to harvest the bigger ones before the end of summer though.
