Is it just the glass surfaces or is the water itself distinctly green?

You're going to get the surface growth Em, its nothing to stress about, just keep cleaning the "front" tank. Shading The tank will reduce the growth somewhat, especially with bright days approaching.

Done any more tests yet?
Taken any more pics yet?

Hi guys,

I had a bit of a drama last week. The water hose got a kink in it and the pipes went without any water for over a day and were dry when I realised what had happened. All of the nice healthy roots that were growing dried up. I was really surprised at how quickly this happened. I have since blocked up the small drill holes in the wiers at the end of each pipe, so that in the event of pump failure of hose kinkage, the water will not completely drain out of the pipes.

I have also covered the fish tank and made it as dark as possible to eliminate the algae that is really giving me the sh...s. If this fails, I have been informed that barley straw is very effective. Does anyone know where to source barley straw from?

thanks

All right, here's the update. Amonia 0.5, Nitrite 1.0, Nitrate 10, and PH 7.2. Happy now????

Just with Steve at the moment. He has noticed that my water is a bit smelly and that I should probably stop feeding the fish three fistfulls at a time. I'm not convinced. Missus thinks the goldies are obese, (I think they're just happy).

Pretty stoked I've got Nitrates. I've still gotta go get some of that barley straw. Steve reckons the Barley Straw wont kill the algae (just stop it reproducing), but I think it will. He can't know everything now can he?

Plants are coming right along. Especially now the weathers getting better. Tomies are growing at about 1cm per day at the moment. It happened all of a sudden after a stall period.

Like any good brainwashed cult member, I have been doing my best to infect other peoples imaginations. I think I have four prospects at work. They will serve the cause well.
