The PVC feeder consists of a 90 mm Tee piece, with closed ends, and a 40 mm internal pipe that is cut at 45 degrees at the end.

Feed flows down the 90 mm pipe, into the 40 mm pipe and out the beveled end. It only flows when the chooks have eaten what's piled up inside the Tee piece.

Works well :-)

great feeder. How many chooks does one 0f these do?

I need to look at something like that as mine have a large galvanised feeder and they (and the bandicoots :upset: ) spread it everywhere.

If there are bandicoots... one must ask, what is the storage mechanism for the food ... aside from the feeder? Or... is the food in the tube the storage?

Food in the 90 mm top tube, so you can make the top tube as long as you want depending on the number of chooks to feed per feeder.

Or you could put an upturned water cooler bottle full of food into the top for extra greedy chooks.

I did a similar feeder but used an elbow at the bottom, it works perfectly.
Just in case you're not aware of it, don't mix different feeds in the feeder. If you mix, say, wheat and pellets, the chooks will scratch out and waste what they don't want so that they can get at what they prefer. I use pellets in the feeder and then every couple of days chuck a couple of handfuls of wheat on the ground for them to scratch and scavenge for.

That's a good tip. I once made a bird feeder to hang just outside a baby's window as a living mobile. I bought a large bag of mixed bird seed to go with the gift, but almost all of it ended up on the ground. The only thing that was taken was sunflower seeds I think.
