mine is a 3m max head (zero flow) 3500lph max flow servicing an auto syphon bathtub.

I'd go for AT LEAST 7000lph if not more for your application. 3m head is still fine, but you can go more if you want.

We got 4 blue barrels today from some council fella - he works at the sewage treatment plant and the barrels used to have PRO-BAC ORGANIC CONCENTRATE in it as it is made up of 100% Kelp/Organic Material Extract it is safe to simply rinse the barrels and use them - these are going to be used by the mariene studies students as the growbeds for their system. One of them will be used by myself to try grow a fruit tree in too.
Oh yes, the 4 barrels cost us a slab of beer - $32 for 4 barrels is rather good if you think about it

Remember the mud bath from when the students began to dig the hole? Look at it now :) They have laid a good layer of mulch down and removed all the bits of junk etc to produce a lovely looking clean area - ready for me to make a mess in ;)

I have set up a very temp growbed of sorts - I have planted sore bought shallots in a stainless steel gutter which is cont. flow... so far so good but the students will have to get their own GB'S in soon as the green water seems to indicate an excess of nutes...

I had to put the shadecloth in as the sun was burning the poor seedlings off before they could grow for more than 3 days :(

And im taking a very keen note btw... its looking excelent... also spec since ive been there.

Also, the nature that aquaponics should be done with recycled materials simply to make it ecconomical to do...

Dave, we have a program here at school that the spec needs students sell their produce to the teachers... perhaps you could do the same?
:rr:

the idea was to hopefully sell produce in order to purchase more feed down the line - but we have to grow the food first! ;)

Are those barrels food safe plastic?

Also, who produces them and where could we get them from?
