That statement is so true. It is the reason that I even found out about aquaponics. I knew there had to be a better, more sustainable way. If everyone started doing this think of what that would mean for "Big-Agriculture"... and not to mention gaining food-independence.

I am with you Charlie. Wiggles or High 5 and I will be in the tank with a large rock to drown myself - I could only watch the original High 5 with the TV on mute and then only for Charlie Delaney. :love7:

Has anyone had any experience with using 2 or more different types of grow media in the 1 system?

I ask because the current media I am using is in a higher PH bracket (around 7.6-8), I am in the progress of introducing another GB and I have a half ton pea gravel mixed with expanded clay balls from my first system that I would hate to waste so thought I could use it in the new bed. The PH of my old system/pea gravel started around 6.4 but later lowered to under 6 maybe even as low as 5 (couldnt measure that low).

So my questions are,
1:- will integrating the 2 types of media even out the PH to somewhere in-between or will one be more dominant?
2:- do I need to take care when introducing another GB because of the PH difference?
3:- is there anything else I need to know or take into consideration when doing this expansion?

Cheers in advance :help:

There's no real way of predicting Charlie - too much geochemistry info needed.

However, in a general sense, multiple media shouldn't be a problem. There's unlikely to be some unholy combination that destroys everything.

Plenty of others are using different media in the one system, so you're not really doing the StarTrek thing here. Quite commonly they have blue metal or something similar in the bottom half of the GB and expanded clay in the top half.

Yep,

I have NATURAL Charcoal, white river stones 20 mm and in some of one of my beds I have have a layer of expanded clay on top of that. I've had no probs at all with any.

Cheers.
