Found out this morning that not everyone is happy with the setup. One of the guppy girls was laying on the table next to the tank. But she must have only been out a short while. Gently put her back in and swim, swim, swim. They like the inflow and maybe she just decided to go upstream. Thankfully that tank does have a lid, so on it goes.
Thanks for the praise. Its fun to put together my oldest hobby and my newest one.

Guppys do that.

We looked after some people's house once, and oneday a stack of their guppies decided to commit sushimi.

We were freaking out but when the owners got home they just said that happened sometimes :whew :)

Since its all working perfectly now, I decided to add some seeds to the empty growbed. We had jalapenos growing on the front porch this past summer and I saved some seeds. I understand that this usually yields more failure-to-germinate than buying seeds for whatever reason. I "planted" 4 groups of 3 seeds as shown just placing them on a paper towel above the water level and then covered them with a layer of media.

If I get just one plant out of the 12 seeds, that will make plenty of peppers if I get even the same production as a pot on the porch, though I expect much more from an AP plant.

I've had good luck with peppers in AP. When I put seeds in the gravel I water them from above like every other day if they don't seem moist enough, and some don't like to be too wet so it's a little balancing act but they come up pretty well most of the time.

I'm glad you have a fun system going! Little setups keep the interest going for me, when the large plans aren't moving forward fast enough...

System update!
No peppers sprouts. Tossed in some seeds for thyme, basil and lavender. Starting to see some sprouts from those. Also stuffed a bean seed in the side of one bed. Fast grower! See pics:

Also, 2 baby guppies have been born and made their way through the overflow, down the beds, up the siphons and down into the sump. Survivors!

System update. The green onions are yellowing, the beans are taking over and the system probably is not getting enough light through the window this time of year. (northern hemisphere)
Some of the Lavender, Thyme and Basil are sprouting but not doing much beyong that.
I may pull the beans out and see if the rest perks up (nutrient deficiency) or things keep plodding along slowly (light deficiency).
I'm not planning to eat the beans that one vine would give anyhow, but I do want my spices.

I didn't have luck with indoor plants by a window either. There were plenty of nutrients in mine, just not enough light, I think. If you're serious about the herbs, I'd get a light too!
