What a mess, what a mess, what a mess.

And so ends the short life of Mr Bill's homemade greenhouse.

Sorry to see Mr Bill :(

Don't know if it was said but you can paint the PVC and it will block the UV (not that it helps now but for future reference).

Used some of the pieces that were at right angles, cut them to size, and put them in with the rest of the PVC pieces. Covered them over with scraps of shadecloth and tossed some composted dirt on top.

Planted one Asparagus crown in each of the wicking barrels. It'll take a couple of years before they are ready for harvest. Always wanted some Asparagus.

Slowly cleaning up the area around my ex-greenhouse. Hopefully this year the "Future AP" area will be ready enough for me to move the gravel beds over to be hooked up to the fish tanks.

Neat Mr. Bill. I made a wicking bed from a round laundry tub and grew potatoes for the first time ever with it this past Summer. Now it has carrots in it. Good luck with your asparagus!

Ok... when I made the post above I was not quite to the near end of this thread... funny how you get attached when you read the marathon (I am a new member and started reading from the start of this one and now I could not go to bed until it was done!!!! lol)
But your "done" is not what I would have wished at all.. my heart breaks for you for all the work you have done and this to happen. I know that you take lots of experience and knowledge from it all.... so that part is good.... the rest... well, it just plain sucks and I am sorry it happened. :support: (I should have known there was a blasted reason for this emotcon... grrrrr wish there were no need for it!!)
I was thinking along the way... you and the darn luck (lack of it) with broccoli. But I love your spirit (which btw would not have shown through had everything been perfect all the way through). If it gives you any consolation at all, you will serve as my inspiration as I begin this journey..... I will remember this thread for a long time!

And also.. I read somewhere (and now I don't remember where because I have been in information overload for a while now... it all blurs after a time)... but anyway, I read that the broccoli head will not be as big as the ones you get in the store... they will be on the smaller side. I don't know why though. I am not sure I will do broccoli although I like it... just not enough to grow it. My main crop will be zucchini, yellow squash, and tomatoes.... those are things we eat nearly every day around here. And then will have other crops too but the above will be the bulk of it. (plus my set up is inside... if the weather gets to mine, I have bigger issues than the grow bed... for sure)

Mr. Bill, please know that I wish you the very best in recovery from all that... oh it made my stomach sick to see that.... You do have a wonderful spirit.... keep the positive outlook and keep finding ways to kick O'le Man Murphys' butt.... he is a stubborn one. I always joke that I am looking for the right documents so I can divorce Murphy because he hangs on my neck like a ball and chain lol lol (and I am not even married HA)

Thanks for sharing so much along the way... good and bad and everything in between... it has been a pleasure to take that journey through your words and pictures.

(off to find out what a wicking barrel is... such a newb here ha) (actually I need sleep... tomorrow I research wicking barrel... yes, that's it... tomorrow [technically today but.....])

Updating all three threads. This one is still going because there are still plants in the system. Although not necessarily one that I seeded in there.

Had some turnips growing under the plastic and they had started to push the sides out some. When it came time to clean them out, we found this clump of grass in there.

System is still plugging along. Arugula, butternut lettuce, a few broccoli (because I refuse to give up), basil that was planted a couple of weeks ago is showing promise, and a few cuttings of ground roses that I put in there to apease the wife. Those things are ready to be divided again, they are really doing well.

And after reading through Food and Fish's epic thread, I decided to bury a crown of rhubarb in a growbed to see what happens. That was just a few months ago.

Harvested 8 stalks which made 5 cups, 3 of which I froze, 2 cups were used to make Rhubarb/Strawberry Crisp. Berries coming from a U-Pick farm just down the road.

That's it. I ain't gonna take any more of it from you. I'm putting the tiny fake arm in the mail. When you get it, you can slap yourself in the face for me.

Then wait until someone says something rude to you and mail them the arm with the aformentioned implicit instructions.

How much is postage to AUS from US?

OK, calming down now... with a helping of rhubarb crisp and a cup of coffee.
