I have filletted a lot of fish Ivan, but I can tell you the barramundi have been one of the hardest to fillet.
Good tools help a lot like the fish board that has a clip at one end to hold the fish and a nice/ sharp filletting knife.
Enjoy your dinner. :D

Well it was my first time filletting a fish and I got to choose a difficult fish to fillet... hmm...
well will definitely consider a fish board and a better knife...

Rupe, gone in 14 Nov... they were already relatively grown when I got them...

Having some problems with introducing a 5mm feed (Skretting Spectra FF) to the grown barra after they have been on the 3mm (Skretting Nova FF) for some time... I suppose they do taste different... I have been noticing uneaten food in the tank the last two days... it is not the whole feed amount so my guess is that there are some fussy eaters in the lot of barra... wish they identify themselves so they can be next in line...

Any ideas?? I am trying to reserve the remaining 3mm stock of feed I have for the smaller trout and then hopefully grow enough to feed on the 5mm....

Thanks Nocky, I actually did see some videos prior and they make it look so easy... but I will search for the trout ones... maybe they are better... and possibly also because my current fillet equipment suck...

Just a bit of an update...

Finally got down to putting up the shade hoops... design inspired by MDP... T fitting with back cut-out so that the fitting can still slide along later. Just waiting to purchase more 40mm PVC pipe to connect the rest of the cross pipes and complete the shade hoop structure... a bit late since summer is already over, but hopefully it will last till next summer (and many summers to come) and we will benefit from it...

Star pickets have been driven into the ground and the hoops (pvc pipe) have been slided over it and into place. Funny thing was this structure was actually put together a day before the Perth freak storm... It held in place during the storm but most likely because there was no shadecloth/sail for the wind to pick it up... Have since drilled through the PVC pipe and the star picket and put two screws into each picket, hopefully that would provide resistance to it being picked up by the wind once the shadecloth has been attached on (for summer)...

Harvested another two barras and the average weigh was about 600gms and slightly above... have photos but missus has downloaded it into her laptop...

Notice the clear up area at the bottom of the photo... space for the next (likely final) system... no more space... will be visiting BYAP shortly to buy more items...

Good size Ivan, mine were only 425g when I started harvesting. I was feeding mine trout pellets the whole time, wonder if thats got anything to do with it? I still reckon they are an easy fish to fillet but you must have a thin flexible very sharp knife. Good luck with your next system.

Most pressure pipe needs a coat of paint as it has very little UV protection in it.

Pipe is 40mm... hmm... well coat of paint could be difficult at this point since it is already up and secured...

Did some harvesting of the barra today... Got this big monster out... or at least he is the biggest fish out of the tank... don't see anymore bigger ones... average is about 500grms... We decided to fillet him since he would provide the good decent size fillets... The rest of the fish we clean, de-scaled, and would probably end up steam cooking them..
