Mmm...
what is on your additives to FT and Sump list?

If you did nothing I would expect the nitrite to go down and the
nitrate to go up...
however if you're doing a 30% water change I have no idea

I added seasole yesterday afternoon.....fish are off their feed, aren't schooling up looking hungry.....

just came back in from site and had the pumps running flat out for the last 2 hours.......nitrite has gone down for sure, but water still smells funky...

going to turn the sump pump off and over flow a third of the tank that way....and add salt

Its the smell that has me really worried.....not a fresh AP smell, something isn't right, and a water change IMHO is the best solution, except then airation is a major factor...still have three airpumps all running in the system....and a new 200 lt a minute airpump being freighted over fro eastern states

KISS and P, 2 very important parts of BYAP...
If you need to make changes, try and make only 1 at a time.
Otherwise you can't be sure what is happening.

think of it like this
AMMO begins to peak and nitrite is formed, if nitrifying
bacteria is available in sufficent numbers.
ammo reduces nitrite will peak, and nitrate will form,
should sufficent numbers of good baccies be present
nitrate will peak and then reduce...
right about now your system has completed one cycle.

This is only my take :ducksforcover: :blackeye:

worms are in the garden beds...sorting out the decaying stuff like left over roots and fish feeds...

Only thing I did that was different was open a 25 Kg of feed....and add seasole......

When I added the seasole yesterday afternoon I even thought about it ( thats break through for me :P ) ....

I have maxicrop aswell but wouldn't use it as it say's on the label on the back of the bottle...nitrogen in the form of Urea ( check out the price on the Maxi crop...are they for real, and is it the right stuff ?? )

I ordered last week from an aquatic supplier in the Eastern States a tank floor cleaner simular to Ruperts ( cause it rocks ) along with a digital temp gauge with inbuilt humidity gauge and pH tester, the 200 lt air pump ( cause OBO recommended it ) these neato German wooden air blocks, and a salt light saber ( Duff recommened that one , cause it looks like a Star Wars light saber, OOHHH and tells you how much salt is in the system )

I haven't added the salt to the system yet, because I really don't know how much ( if any ) is still in the system.......so I need the " salinity refractometer " to hurry up and get here

Jessy

Try poking a rod down into various parts of the gb and take a sniff, if it smells like that smell you get when wading in mud in your bare feet you have anerobic areas.

It is the right stuff Jessy.... and you'll find that Seasol also has nitrogen as urea...

Cost is pretty reasonable... and comparative to the Seasol product you have...

The seasol is a "pre-mixed" 2L.... the Maxicrop is a 1L bottle of concentrate... capable of making 360L....

The hard bit, take a section out, or pile it round and take out the sludge, then repeat. If you don't overdo it and its still fairly loose without too many roots try an old wet vaccum cleaner with a pipe with crennelations on to stop the stones getting sucked up. Poking around is just to identify the worst areas. Lots of shit will start moving back to the ft though.
