I'll link you to a thread over at sublife where someone posted a couple of links to plans for me Jamie. I like the wooden cabinet with propane gas one.

Maybe we just need one decent sized one for SEQ and we can all share it. I nominate you to make it

Over xmas I think I'll try smiking a couple of my fish in my webber. If I like the results, then I'll turn some attention to building a smoker (will be a fair while before my next batch of fish are ready, so will have plenty of time).

On the salty side, Taylor and Mullett are good smokers. Really, any oily fish will give good results. Mackeral and Tuna come up good too. The backyard BBQ will do a reasonable job if it has a hood, I have never tried a Webber but it looks ideal for small batches.

Be careful when smoking to get the wood from a reputable source. As you do not want anything treated in the mix.

Total agree with you Jamie about the condition of human race at the moment...All over the world, peaking is occuring; water, oil, grain etc..

I love the part in the Matrix where agent Smith says to Morpheus (about the human race)
"You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed, and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern, a virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, you're a plague".

What you are doing to setup in a self-sufficient way is also a path of many who realise that we can't rely on goverments and other agencies to look after the planet and its species.

 to all here who is making a difference.

Hi LB,
Yes - the matrix was/is a great movie. I catch the bus at 7.30 each day, sit in front of my computer reading 100's of emails about totally meaningless crap, attend numerous meetings about meaningless, useless shit and then catch the bus home. I work for a bank - the Matrix truly is all around us :)

Looks like oil will be $100/bl soon - bit of a milestone.
Fish are getting big!!
Gotta build that smoker.

Had a great weekend, got 4 brand new baths for $20 a piece at the Logan City "Smart Tip" recycling mart.
So spent this morning washing gravel and this afternoon went on a rally about Climate change in the city. Me and the missus danced to a Reggae band in the pouring rain in Musgrave park - Good fun but a small turn out - maybe 1000 people max. Melbourne had 50,000 I believe.
The weather is pretty bizarre - hot one minute then cold, pouring with rain then sunshine - hey a bit like Melbourne really :)

Cheers
Jamie

Gooday!
Just wondered if some of you nice people can do me a favour?

I have been away doing two things - hand rolling a website using php & mysql and writing an eBook on Aquaponics.

What I'm after is proof reading and constructive criticism of the eBook, and in order to get the book you have to navigate to it through my site - I want to know if its a user-friendly experience or needs work.

The book will flog for $5.00 USD, [s]but right now the link to PayPal is switched off so its free![/s]

edit: Link to PayPal now activated.

As I say in the book - its not supposed to be encyclopaedic - you get $5 worth of good starting material - 80 pages. So criticise in that context :)

The site is still "under construction".

If you can do this for me - the site is http://www.greenoz.info

Eventually is going to be all useful stuff about post-Peak oil survival.
And of course aquaponics is an important part of that.

Cheers
Jamie

Hi Jaymie - yes - you need to join up
Its a "Members only" special.
Nothing special about joining up - there is a link on the left under login
(maybe it needs to be bigger).
Then you can login and get the book.
