Hey SD. Once i get rid of those teats, I can drill a slightly larger hole for hydro net pots. By capping each end and putting a uniseal in either end you have a flow thru system that will raise crops hydroponically, things like lettuce etc. Solids need to be removed to stop the pipes from blocking, so I need the bathtub full of gravel as the pre filter. It's all pretty basic stuff, just the time thing.
Aquaponic bovine raises some funny mental pictures.

Thankyou for your kind words and friendly tolerance of my future AP superstar Greenhouse Fish. I have encouraged her to do some reading which I am sure she will ignore. Will put up some pics of the fab stainless milk vat soon, been making room in the garage all day! 'Honey do we really need those spare beds, old family treasures....'

File comment: 4.5hp motor to chill the milk, the rod this side of that extends into the vat to do the chilling. We won't need it unless we have temp issues with trout next spring for example.

File comment: Adjustable lids either side. About 1700lts. I love the brand name, 'Alfa Larval', it even sounds fishy.

I think in years to come, i will be very pleased I got this. An absolute steal at $450, not much more than the cost of a new ibc and one third the price of a new 2000lt plastic aquaculture tank. Think I have done very well, as Kenny said, 'It will outlive religion.'
May run it with the current fish pump 24/7to the hydro pipes as a separate system, i don't really know yet. Then spa pump in line for the bath tub setup. May use the spa pump for both, don't really know. It will prolly be a christmas new year project. It won't require a lot of money, just some time and planning . All ideas welcome!

'Alfa Larval' - anyone that's ever been in the dairy industry would know that name TT..... from milking sheds - milking machines - milk vats.....

They do the lot and do it the best..... yep that vat will still be around when the pyramids start to crumble.

Can take more pics Steve. Don't know what cct. is. If it helps, there is no electrical connection or conduit between the motor and tank walls. There is a connection b/n the motor and the cooling rod, dasall as far as I can tell.
The walls are an inch thick, so I am thinking stainless inside and out, prolly insulated in between. If i googled milk vats I would prolly get definitive specs.

Gotta say Rupe, I really am stoked. Couldn't really afford it, but at that price, man be silly not to buy it. I am certain I could sell it for a grand 2moro, but what a fantastic fish tank!

BK, i have nuthin on FF, he is the man!

TT i meant refrigerant circuit (cct.) :)

the vertical pipe you have there is most probably a thermowell with a temperature sensor in there to measure milk temp.

are there any other "ports" or pipes that go into the side of the vat but dont seem to go all the way through?

No Steve, just that electrical connection between the motor and the rod. The motor is also connected to the agitator so there may be a chilling rod down the inside of the agitator.

Rupe, that guy is 10 minutes from me. Looks like a ripper larvae tank or tank for growing larval feed like copepods or a grading tank. Seems about 500lts or so. Man ya gunna get me in trouble. 300, he's dreamin but a man would be a fool to pass it up for say one fiddy. Who is gonna tell swmbo? I think I need to disappear for a week and then, 'honey look what i found on the side of the road.'
