And uneaten feed decomposing can add to water quality issues...

Also overfeeding can be counter productive... with the fish expending all most as much energy to process the extra feed as any energy gained... it can also stress the internal organs and effect the nutrional uptake.... or (just like us) lead food being layed down as fat deposits rather than converted to protein (flesh)....

I wouldn't do it on a regular basis...
We don't have all the conditions required to break down the
oils.
But hey go for it!

hey smart thinking Shirlock, but pilchards are full of oil...hence the fatty liver if fed on them alone....

Hope everybody has managed to survive the silly season.

I am in a little bt of a confused state here as what to do....

Parameters are as follows
amm 0.25
nitrite 1.0
nitrates 10
pH 7.4

But the water looks absolutely crap.....my tank has nearly always been crystal clear.....not any more....its in the shed, so it's not the sun light

I have a heap of salt in the system.....not sure how much...but maybe up to 5 ppm max

The fish are ALWAYS hungry...which is good, but the nitrite and the water murkiness is really bugging me. I think the little buggers are going to have to be put on a small rations for a few feeds and let some of nitrobactor catch up...

any thoughts....next possible action would be a partial water change......but would prefer not.......in one sence, the tank looks like a huge volume of nutes...and in anouther it looks shit house

5-6 ppt of salt will cloud your water Jessy... and IMO.... will elevate your nitrites for a while.... especially if the water is warm... ie... 25+ ....

Ease the feed for a day or two....
