Stupid weather, stupid fish....
Weather has gone cold again.
The Barra are once again isolated from the main AP system and require daily water changes and supplementary heating.
I was supposed to be going away this week..
Guess I'll stay at home and do odd jobs, instead of kicking back at a beach house.
Stupid weather, stupid fish.

yep, just when the silvers were starting to jump out of their skins for feed, the stupid weather goes cold again. So much for global *frack* warming... start of January and the hottest day forecast for the next week is 30. interesting that people will supplement heat for barra but not for silvers, whose ultimate temp for rapid growth is 27 degs :?:

I'm, worried enough about my next electricity bill just from heating the barra. Not going to heat the silvers as well.
If they are still eating - no heating :!:

Stu, how did your wood burning heater work out?

comment was made with no regard to costs  looking at the growth rates rupert is getting in the mid 20's on his silvers (except the dead ones :blackeye: )

Wood heater is super effective up to 6000 litres, and holds the temp steady overnight at 10000 litres. We are going to add a second wetback with smaller diameter pipe and more of it before next winter.

Just spent half an hour sitting with a beer and watching the goings on in the yabby / goldfish pond.
Things I observed:

- Don't put four SP fingerlings in the goldfish pond. They are very skittish and freak out the goldies. ( Don't know how I am going to get them out!)
- Need more hides for the larger yabbies.
- Need (read want) a digital SLR with polarising filer.
- Loop siphons don't work properly with yabbies living in them :!:

Have you considered a Gas heater? What's the lowest you can set an instantaneous heater to. They're only afew hundred, and gas is HEAPS cheaper per kWh than electricity
