The camera with a suitable lens will detect and trigger for something as small as a bug. The canon hack thing is awesome. you can even set up a grid to decide which bit of the screen will trigger the shot... it if you are taking a shot of lightning but dont want the moving tree in the foreground to trigger it, you can deselect the tree.

I love the open source community.

For example, there is a NZ washing machine company .. maybe Fisher and Paykel - that makes their devices with massive stepper motors. Perfect for controlling sudden stops and starts. Anyway... it turns out with a little messing about, they make very good small wind turbines. (maybe 300 watts or so from memory)

The cool kids from the interwebs asked them to make some small change to their device so it turned more smoothly and they did.

It wasn't any big adjustment, and didnt have any real downside to them, but it would have required some retooling, but how cool is that!

I hope it is that company.. if not I'll edit this with a correction later.

I just sent a PM to someone, and discovered the forum software replaces naughty words with interesting alternatives.

I never knew this because I always keep it family friendly, and the PM was describing someone who didnt bring their own drinks to a BYO BBQ, but I cant help thinking there's a PM me poetry competition going wanting

Difficult to know what's going to rhyme with something you cant see.

I can't remember who it was from way back on this thread, when someone came up with a dozen excellent acronyms for a yabby farm, but I'm sure they will figure it out

I was just thinking that the preppers must all be having a great time sitting on a mound of toilet paper and ammunition (or whatever floats your boat) but I guess many of us are feeling pretty good about being a bit self reliant as well. Not only does it help us, but it takes a little bit of pressure off the rest of the mainstream system.

Give yourself a pat on the back people.

I say "us"... but I'm growing nothing but lemon grass (too ouchie for toilet paper) and maidenhair ferns (too small for toilet paper) in a system powered by a few goldfish.

I picked a bad time to give up growing fish and vegetables.

I've been sitting here watching the panic happen, even some of my co-workers talking about needing to go to the store to "see if they can find chicken or hamburger" and I just think to myself... I have on 7 cubic foot freezer almost completely full of a pig I raised last year... I have a 5 cubic foot freezer that is full of chickens I raised last year... then I have a 20 cubic foot freezer that is full of venison I shot last year along with frozen fish I raised last year... along with a bunch of pre-made meals my wife made and froze so we can just toss them in the oven to cook them that are made out of a lot of the veggies from our garden last summer... plus a cupboard full of canned goods from the garden last summer...

I don't have a ton growing in my AP right now but do have some lettuce, swiss chard, kale, spinach that are close to being able to harvest... along with some catfish and bluegills that I could harvest... and I have seeds started in the greenhouse that will be ready to go in the garden in another 5 or 6 weeks (some might have to go in the greenhouse and hoophouse sooner because they are growing faster than expected)...

I might have to go to the farm supply store in the next couple of days to pick up some chicks to start the next batch soon (we got rid of all of our layers last year so need to get some growing for eggs).

I think my family of 4 could easily survive an entire year off of the food we have in our house and the food that will soon be growing in the garden. Let people panic about food at the grocery store.

Well done Rininger85. It's called putting in the effort and reaping the rewards.

We are rural and in the same boat as Rininger85, full freezers and enough food for months. It's a 45 min drive to the closest shops so you learn to keep some stock at home. Dried milk, and an aquaponics garden to supplement, full freezer meals and definitely social distancing space. We can go months without leaving the property Dec-May and it doesn't bother unless we are out of sundowners. Haven't set up a still yet.

Me reminiscing about a 4-5 meter fall as a kid...

Eating solid food doesn't agree with me so much. A sandwich during the day seemed like a luxury for a few minutes until the vomit started to fly
