Went fishing in the pool- grabbed a couple of worms from the aquaponics grow beds and caught a great silver perch- probably the biggest we have caught! It was 45cm long and weighed 1.438kg!

We love having fish in the swimming pool!!

Nice one dandm have you had the sp breed in the pool at least you can get them to a good size in there

We haven't had them breed Frank, what we do is add 50 fingerlings each year- one of the benefits of sliver perch not eating each other! Over the years, there is now a good size range- the goal is to catch the big ones!

I love your system, maybe when the kids leave home I can turn our pool into a large tank. The wife loves the veggies my IBC produces, but ...

How do you only catch the big ones.

dr bee, we can highly recommend it!! We do catch small ones sometimes, but just throw them back in. What we have found is the bigger ones usually get caught first, then they seem to get wise and the little ones then have a go. Once we have one big one that is it, we generally stop.
If we want more we use the net method mentioned above- then we can be very selective and choose which and how many!

Hiya Charlie- all good, had a bushfire scare yesterday from the lightning and no power until tonight.... the generator kept the fish in the pool and AP going though!!

Ok, I know we don't post very often, and mainly when we harvest- but had to share this whopper! Caught in the swimming pool, which have had silver perch for the last 5 years. Our guess is this is one of the originals. We caught 8 the other day, all over a kilo, and this one. I know we have said it before, but really...... having fish in the swimming pool is so good!

I had a read of your whole thread, there wasn't much on TV last night!

When you went to running silvers in the pool instead of the barra and trout you mentioned that you had heard good things about their edibility.

Did they live up to your expectations?

I noticed that you're still running barra and trout in the AP system and wondered if the only reason you run silvers in the pool is because they're easy, rather than being tasty
