True, True Steve and I don't have any price on reagents yet (coming),

Personally has another important aspect, I'm colour blind, reds and browns are pretty much one and the same to me.

Makes reading graduated colour strips difficult

Guys, guys if you want a exact reading off these test kits its easy. Very easy

Place the card horizontal then take the cover off the top off the tube and put the bottom of the tube on the card, then look from the surface of the water through the bottom onto the card.

Got that?

Start from the lowest colour while dragging the tube across the bars and there will be one bar that you don't even notice when you move from the white background to the colour.

Dead right CG, that's the only way I've been able to do it.

Even purples and blues can be hard to distinguish between so I've had to just concentrate on picking the graduations...

Using a white backdrop and looking down the tube makes possible to pick the graduations

Hah! - thanks CG, here was I trying to apply basic calculus (and failing)

The key is to compare the colours in natural light... not under incandescent or fluro light. It makes a huge difference...

VERY true tim, i did a test under a warm CF (more light the tungsten light) and then read the same test under a MH (closest thing to true daylight and there was atlest one graduation difference, can't remember exactly.

Okay, tried the CG method (in daylight) but the difference between 40/80 is too close on the NO3 scale to confidently say which it is, so back to guesstimating

Yeh, NO3 is a shocker!
