Has anyone tried using driftwood and shell grit together to buffer both ends of the ph spectrum? It seems logical to me, but I have never used either.

In AP, no. But in my aquariums, yes. I always have driftwood because some of the algae-eating catfish need it in their diet. My water here is hard but as the driftwood softens it, I would put a shell grit pouch in the filter to keep it balanced. More important when trying to keep fish pretty and not just healthy/growing.

Jalapeños go red. At least all the ones i have seen will go red if you leave them on the plant.

I think the drift wood will constantly be buffering though. Unlike the shell grit. :dontknow:

They stayed green last time. Perhaps I may need to try something new on my nothing new system. I think I will buy some driftwood and shell grit, throw them in a pouch and see what happens. Unless someone else has met disaster that way.

I'm not going to call it successful yet. Still too early to tell.

Hell if I can get somewhat looking of a red chilli pepper to grow out of mine I can call it good. :) I like how your system is going.

That tomato will take off... when I do mine, I just cut it off, strip the lower leaves and stick it in the rock and they grow like crazy....

give it a week and watch it grow..

I think that I have spent too much time on BullwinkleII's thread, because I am now posting links to articles I find interesting. It proposes the theory that the Amazon rainforest was man made. A sort of massive permaculture farm. It also brings up the debate of how large the population of the Americas was pre-Colombus. Some believe that the population in the Americas in 1492 was larger than Europe's. It makes sense when you consider Tenochtitlán was larger than any European city in history at the time Hernán Cortés set foot in it.

Do you feel bad for linking an article that has over 10,000 words !? :P

I don't think I will read it all, but very interesting indeed !
I wonder if you can see this area on google earth/satellite view....who feels like finding it ?
