I get poetic revenge on worm and locust in my system. I go through the grow bed and pick all the worms off from under the leaves that I can find and feed them to my chickens. Then I eat them in the form of eggs

Hmmmmm, my fishies are behaving strangely.

They're not coming to the surface to feed very much. But when the feed starts sinking they attack it when it sinks ~20cm or so. Usually they attack the feed as soon as it hits the water.

Water temperature has dropped to ~16 deg C (in the middle of frickin' Summer!), maybe that has something to do with it?

edit: aahhh ... just realised it is the last day of Summer! :)

I transplanted some strawberry runners into the AP system several weeks ago, but they are not looking good - anyone know what's wrong?

Looks like you have planted the strawberrys to deep [the crowns need to be above the gravel

An update.

Generally, the system is going very well. The water in the tank is not as clear as it used to be - it's a little bit murky but I don't know why. What should I look for?

I cut back on feed quantity for a couple of days (thinking that the murkyness might clear up) but that didn't help. All it did was make the fish hungrier, so now they are back to full rations. :)

I discovered that there are quite a lot of roots at the bottom of each standpipe. I don't know what from. When I pulled out a whole Pak Choy, the roots are only ~10cm long. The gravel is ~40cm deep!

Been harvesting LOTS of Pak Choy. The caterpillars eat about as much as we do, & the aphids are now joining in. The Pak Choy is starting to bolt (go to seed) with the recent hot weather.

LKB - ha ha very funny! :)
F&F - I think you might be right about having planted the strawberries too deep.
