Time for an update. Been really busy at work so in general Aquaponics have been neglected. Good thing we decided to convert to silver perch "power" about two years ago, so no mass culling of fishes during the seasons.

Nevertheless, this second system of mine has now been turned off for over 6 months now. First system was a off the shelf BYAP system so the second system was more of a "hands-on" DIY trial and error smaller system. Learnt a few lessons.

Anyways, it is time for it to go.

Well dug up most of the buried pipe work and converted the sump and fish tanks into wicking beds. Planning to plant some sweet potato slips into one and possibly ginger in the other.

Just a little bit of landscaping work to be done and this part of the yard is all good again.

Cover the tanks, my fish jump out chasing bugs or whatever. The reduced light will suppress algae growth. Add a few fish in there that like to eat algae. Algae will mess up your water chemistry and it can grow so fast that damage is done before you know what happened. My Tilapia eat algae that attaches to tank walls so I allowed a few to live in my sump too.
