Lmao Simmo...

Bit tricky to explain really. Basically, use a light air lift costantly running in a tub or tank with the juviniles hatching in. Have that drop the water into another tank and the two balanced with a joining "level pipe" meshed to prevent the little ones getting back. This will grab just about all of them out as they let go of their mother and go adventuring, as is their nature.

I hope that makes sense lol

Crusty Tip: Alternatively the meat and string would be interesting but you will find a fresh fillet of Mullet will do a better job because it is the peptides that attract them not the blood.......

Hmmm, OK, they are definitely carnivores so looks like I will be setting up a nursery tank for the expectant mums. It's gonna be a busy weekend.

Whats the best way of catching them without dismantling all of their hides? Meat on a string? :) Could be fun...

Thanks Tim.

Now you all have me drawing up plans for a system mwhahahahaha

I already have an experimental 36,000litre crayfish system in the shed but the rear patio is looking a little barren......

Hi Crusty... Pea Gravel is available from most soils suppliers. Buy by the trailer load if you need a lot. Otherwise you can usually get it in 50 L bags.

The other QLDer's will give you some more specific places.

Crusty I love that your 36000 litre system is experimental. For any of us, that would be monumental !!!!

Sorry for the derail...
ahhh I cant help myself really. Have been studying Intensive aquaculture for 9 years. I believe any system is experimental because I am yet to find a book that says this will work and you do not or can not improve it...

I will have a think about what my aquaponics will look like and start a thread to follow it. Lol this is going to be interesting fun.

Now back to Simmo....

If your marron are in berry it will be best just to separate them in their own little fish tank or tub and kept nice and dark.

One of my yabbies from way way back.....

Awesome pics mate, while one of mine is a nice sky blue colour, it is nowhere near as deep a blue as that girl. Ive got a tank that I will start setting up inside now for them.

Hadn't been asked a question...

Just saw a "young new" link and posted some links to info that I thought may be of interest and maybe help to people.

Nuff said OK

S77 all of my yabbies have turned to a blue colour in time, usually after a they shed thier carpace a couple of times.thier shell usually goes the colour of the water they are in i.e. black water, black shell. I think you are right about the aggresivness of the yabbies as down south(pemberton, margret river ect)there is what is called the yabbie free line, you are not supposed to take yabbies past it for any reason. if they get into the wild they will destroy the natural marron stock.
You will find that yabbies will populate an area in such a dense number that in time they will not grow to full potentual but be stunted.
Marron on the other hand will only breed to the environment conditions(in the wild) and will generally not over populate. Also yabbies will just about live in any mucky water where as marron prefer cleaner environments.
P.S. do you think the new tank will get coverd in alge?

Sheez Gnash, I'd be afraid that bugger would get loose and have to count my toes every morning. He or she looks very close to escape just one more inch up that tank and ya better be running.. LOL
