The fish had over ten meals today from the packet stuff(40% protein) to bugs and worms, Its was fun playing around like a kid catching baby earwigs. Even though I over feed them I justify by saying it will produce some nitrates for the plants. :geek:

what do you guys think of the water temp? is 29 too high?

Hi siphonphobia,

your system looks great. Good idea with the way you have set the IBC's.

I think the silvers are ok to handle temps up to 32deg C. The summer is when they come to life and spawn.

They like warm water and out the river[Goulburn] are very active during the hot weather.

I have about 30 in my fish pond with the goldies and they are doing real well. I don't feed them any more than once a week and thats only to get them to come to me so the little kids can feed them and touch the goldfish.

The 170 in the AP fish tank that are fed twice a day are not growing any quicker than the pond silvers eating mostly natural food.

The pond is in full sun and get very warm but the silvers don't seem to mind so far.

God bless froggo.

rupe stopped by about a hour ago with 30 SP 20cm+
I think he must have kept them in a round tank as they don't seem to like the IBC edges one fish is trying jump out near the corners. Maybe I'm just trying to make a excuse to buy the 2500L FT that I don't need...yet

pics of the fish are on the way once the green water gets cleaned up or you can look at rupes thread page 18 I think.

all else is fine, oh the pacific blue eyes are dying that I got the other day, did a water test all is 0 temp is 27 cause they are only in about 300L of water. I'm not sure if they are eating ( i feed them live food... mozzie worm things)

PS thanks again rupe for the fish and time today

peace

Cool, a fingerling tunnel/maze. I can just see them playing hide and seek with each other between the IBCs.

haha Hopefully the wont fit through the tap, I'm kinda scared when I'll need to close the tap off *squish*
I was going to put some mesh in but then I thought it might be a safe haven for the glass shrimp :D

do do do dooo (twilight zone) My PH went from 8 to 8.4 and I added juice of a lemon to 1000L last night.
other things I have added since last 8ph test:
food (pellet,bugs mostly earwigs)
fish and water in the bag was 7.2ph
the pipe that connects the fishtanks

well I added another 3 lemons half a cup see what happens later today, I might haveto get6 something else or just sit on my hands and wait for the system to break down the ph
other test results:

amo 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ppm
temp 10am: 25
temp 3pm: 28

F&F: nice design I think I might do something like that since I found two fish in the wrong tank already.

ph back to 8

One of the new pipe connections was leaking due to a crack. Upon taking off the pipe there was a fish stuck at the end, which the tap was off.

I hate it when that happens... found half a dozen in my basket filter of my pump one day... found one of the few goldies wedged into the same aperture, but from the other side... wedged hard, got angry when I tugged on him... eventually got him free, and he still lives, 6 months later! Damn goldies, can't kill em ;-)

I'd go with F&F's suggestion to keep fish out of the pipes. I've seen a few fish stuck in the tap mechanisms of IBC's and it can be hard to get the buggers out because of their fins. They go in easy, but if they get stuck, they don't come back out easily.

I ended up putting filter mesh in the holes as a temp fix, Having the GB on top of the system has proved to be a major problem, I will most likely cut the frame and move the Gb's back to cover 66% of FT.
