Finished off second GB today, will post photos tomorrow! Caught an absolute MASSIVE mullet today in a cast net, unfortunately didn't have a big enough bucket, I reckon fish was at least 45 cm, if not 50cm. Let it back, but will be going back with a bigger bucket! Check it out! I am a size 11 shoe, for comparison!

Also finally replanted peas that were still in seedling trays, look at root growth! Must be doing something right!

Hi All!

Did some work over the last few days, PH 8.0, Ammonia 0.25, Nitrites 5, Nitrates 5. Seem to have ammonia and Nitrates dropping after all peaking, but not Nitrites. Is this weird?

First photo is of my dirty water from adding gravel to growbed. It seems that everyone time water gets clear I add more gravel and dirty it!

Second photo is of original growbed minus beans, peas and zucchini that I have transferred. Kale still going strong and everything growing.

Third photo is of Growbed number two, transferred beans, peas and zucchinis. Beans and peas transferred well, zucchinnins went into a little bit of shock and lost some leaves, but seam to be going ok now.

Fourth photo is of system with two more grow beds (minus gravel). Must psyche myself to go get more gravel!

Another update, same readings last night as previous, still can't see fish as dirty from adding more media (road gravel), I've been commenting (well complaining relly) about how I'm refusing to pay for rock, thought I'd post a photo of how I do it....Image
And
Image

Long process (bout an hours shovelling and sieving to get dirt out), then another hour washing, but dammit, I just don't want to pay for rocks!

Also posting a pick of my "ex worm farm filter" which currently just has cheap scrubbers and shade cloth, but will eventually have matala filter foam and k1 balls, but not many fish yet so no need, and the ever present budgetary issue!

Image

And a photo of it in play. This is the return from the fish tank.

Image

Anywho, must finish washing gravel and hook up my third growbed (huzzah, one more to go.... Dammit more rock sieving :(...........)

Anyways, happy aquaponicing!

Oh, I also spoke to a bloke today about getting freshwater prawns, he knew about aquaponics which is always a plus, and I have put a down payment on some for once it warms up..... Sounds promising!

I think you could fit a few more GB's in there :p

I'd normally say you don't need to wash the gravel, but that pile looks like it'd got a lot of dust in it.

Yeah Colum, where I get it from it's at least 30% dust or dirt. Plus even once sieved I give it a rinse as it takes over two weeks too clear up.... I think my crazy amount of pumping makes it take longer to settle ahahha

Depending on budget.... More local natives I get myself.... Or a purchase. Funnily enough whole thing might end up getting moved as I am looking at buying a cafe, and would incorporate it there ahaha....

But back to topic, I am leaning towards some Moreno catch myself, to keep system progressing, and I want prawns which I can get in August....

Huzzah, I'm almost cycled!

PH 8.0
AMMONIA Somewhere between 0-0.25
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5

Onwards and upwards!

Hmmm scary thinking about possibility of moving it all... ahaha :/

Hmmm fish to organise now!

And lots of researching plants and how they grow for use possibly in a cafe.... Lots of googling to come!

Aquaponic On!
