Interns are wonderful thing.lol Ryan doesn't have the luxury of abundant free or low cost help, so Ron is absolutely right in the drum filter vs. hand cleaning netting daily. As a wise man once told me years ago...machines are always cheaper then men. They don't call in sick, don't get tired, don't steal, and best of all...don't whine. lol

Our realtor just called and said she's awaiting a written offer on our house. Fingers crossed. With any luck we will be buying a house out in the country with a little acreage soon . . .

Sweet! I wish that I would have looked a little longer after my wife found the house were in right now. I really need a bigger yard and a separate garage. :( Good house hunting to you and may you find something awesome.

We are finally closing on the sale of our old house this week. We moved into what we hope will be our new homestead on two acres over the weekend and are leasing until close next month. The property has a neat little 15' x 30' lean to structure that will make a nice fish house. The plan is to house two 12 foot diameter fish tanks and use those to run four 48 foot long 4 foot wide DWC grow beds.

It's been a long time coming, but we are finally moving towards our dream of owning a small farm . . .

Congrats on the new farm!

I'll look forward to this one coming together.

What's your plan for bio-filter? Ryan type drum, or something else?

Probably a radial flow filter followed by some heavy duty rubbermaid type totes with Matala filter media in them. The system will more or less be based on the UVI system. Although I'm likely to use goldfish at a lower density and not worry about heating the fish tank in the winter. And it'll probably be a CHOP2 design since I'm planning on making raised grow beds.

Congrats on the new property, looks great! If you need a extra hand doing some of the building I might be able to help sometime. I live in Houston and am working on getting something going too, I know how much work it can be. I have a good friend that lives in Hitchcock so go down there every now and then. Let me know if you ever need a set of hands to some free labour.

Got the first project at the new homestead done. Added some rainwater tanks to the back of the barn.
