ok I took a sample to the friendly pool shop, he said the water has 2 - 3 ppt salt.

is this too much?

Also those salinity refractometer's read at +- 1ppt is that accurate enough?

plants are still looking sad.

NH3 NH4 is going down - 0.25ppm, nitrite 5ppm+, nitrate 5ppm, ph 8.2,

Still waiting for the SP, will the extra fish help?

looks like your media is pretty damp/wet.. the top layer (1" or so) of your growbed should be dry..

lost some more seedlings yesterday :(

could the crickets be eating them? Wiki says they eat "some seedlings"

I haven't seen other bugs in my system.

pic is from google images.

Katydids are a green grasshopper that eat big holes in the leaves and they seem to be over active overnight . Perhaps come out tonight with a torch and look for slugs and slaters as well.

I put some beer traps in the grow beds and caught nil.

but there is a lot of crickets.

the fish nibble on the crickets but don't seem to keen on eating them.

got some pics of the suspects.

from wiki "Crickets are omnivorous scavengers who feed on organic materials, including decaying plant material, fungi, and some seedling plants"

hey the roof cap tile is it made out of concrete...?

If so it will most likely be leaching lime into the water which will push the pH up..

It will do so for a time then slowly reduce..

Juergen..
