I know what your saying swanny,

I have seen some crazy looking stuff myself. I think originally because I am under-educated in the world of aquaponics so to speak, I believed that because high stocking levels can be achieved that it was ok to do so, and because a certain "video" claimed that 1 fish per 10L of water is ok, well why wouldnt I? :naughty:
Ive seen these high stock levels work and considered it OK but as such experienced and wonderful people like EarthBound, Faye, Freoboy, Outbackozzie, Fish&Food and alike have pointed out-That, although these stocking levels are achievable, they are definately not desirable nor are they healthy for your prized possessions- THE FISH! :thumbright:
Aquaponics now for me is not just about growing fish and food, it is about a relationship between human and nature...

Forgive me father as I have sinned.

Yeah, a lot of it depends on the species guys. Most freshwater fish don't take crowding very well, but tilapia are one of those freaks of nature that can deal with it and thrive. It's why they are the second most cultured species in the world (after carps).

How much noise can fish handle in a FT?

I remember it wasn't encouraged to tap on the glass of your indoor FT but what about a larger system?

What Im basically getting at is I need to use a grinder on a the steel part of my IBC FT, do you think this would put them through too much trauma?

Trout will die if you have any percussive noise near the tank, like earthquakes, wacka packers etc.

Watched a TV doco once about a rock band who were renowned for loud, played at the Bondi surf club and killed every fish in a huge tropical tank nearby.

Oh! Think I might go and buy some little ear muffs for my trout and wrap them in cotton wool just in case. :D

Actually. Does any one have any more info on this? I am worried about moving my system to my country block at the end of the year where I am planning to build a rammed earth house.

I drilled 8 8mm holes in my cement brick tank with a hammer drill with my trout in there and no ill effects... I am sure they did not like it but no deaths or anything. I was none the wiser :shifty:

Don't think it'll do any permanent damage.

My main FT is essenitally part of the inside of my house and both my SPs and trout routinely have to put up with Deep Purple, Lep Zep, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc at max volume. No ill effects observed.
