Thank guys


Put them in a 6l container with the aquarium air pump for 15 min @ 6ppt...
Have 1 still isolated in fresh (aged) unsalted water with the pump as it's not looking to happy...
BIL suggested to get some anti fungal from the produce but after reading the linked thread above will isolate them in the small aquarium that I will get ready now... If things don't improve by morning they will get a dosing in there...

Ok.... I took a clip of one of the crook fish yesterday & took it to a local aquarium store & was told that the fish had a Fungus infection... I bought some anti fungal but decided to see if the salting worked overnight... By this morning we had lost 2 more fish...
All fish were removed & placed in a small tank upstairs then given a treatment of Pimafix... They will continue to get a daily dose for a while until all are better... Also salted the tank to 2ppt with 20g of sea salt in 10L of water... Also picked up a sponge filter to help keep the tank clean...
Was told that the Yabbies should be fine in the tank as they are not susceptible to fungus infections... Anyone have any ideas on that?? I did get 4 more larger ones.. Sort of regretting it now just in case the whole tank is infected...
Readings this morning were,
pH 8.2
Ammonia 2-4
Nitrites 5
Nitrates 5-10
I did a 1/3rd water change with some water we have been aging for 5-6 days... Was going to do a test later tonight but a stray dog in our yard saw us walking the neighbourhood until late trying to find its home...
Have a clip on the fish & the spots on them uploading at the moment if anyone wants to put their 2 cents in on what you think about the spots... Also any feed back on what I've done would be greatly appreciated...

yeah, don't use the med's in an ap system,,, stuff you get from an aquarium usually isn't meant for "food fish" or food plants for that matter
salt is usually the best way to go in ap

If you have fungal infection ad you want to eat the fish DO NOT use the meds, they are quite often carcinogenic to humans. Salt to maybe 8-10 ppt, leave for a hour and then do a 50% water change, so salt is then 5ppt. Leave like that for a week then drop to 2ppt and carry on as normal

This high concentration can only be done safely in a hospital tank. To salt this high in a closed system will knock the nitrofing bacteria out I have done it accidently in a HSM with the fish a while back

Thanks for your concern peoples... I read that in a "salting" thread yesterday so that's why I have them the hospital tank + I don't like my chances of getting a good fillet from gold fish so went with the meds at the time...

I must admit that I did stuff up in 2 places & the lessons have been learnt now..
1. keep tank salted to aid in general well being of fish.. Can't believe I read & forgot about such a basic thing...
2. QUARANTINE ALL NEW FISH !!! Thought I could get away with it... Such is...

So, This morning I have given them a 1 hour bath in 10ppt sea salt then just did a 50% water change to see how that goes... Thanks freoboy.... Will do another water change tomorrow to try & keep the water clean for them... laying off the feed for 2 days as well...
They do look a lot better with less "growths" on them now...

We have some MAJOR movement with the levels today...

Ammonia .25ppm
Nitrites 5+ppm
Nitrates 80-160ppm
Getting there & I hope this is a step in the right direction... Yabbies were all out tonight & crawling around... Still just giving them some the Barra pellets...
Fish are still in tank with 5 ppt salt & must say are looking heaps better... Thanks...
Will do a water change tomorrow in the tank with some more 5ppt salt water & give them a feed at night...

The Fish in the tank inside have been salted to 10ppt on Sunday for an hour & again today... They are looking a lot better but there are still signs of infection on one goldie & 1 feeder...

Checked out the Yabbies today & they appear to be all there & happy... Feeding them some bits of cucumber this afternoon as well as dropping a few pellets in...

You have got plenty of room for more plants there Bnbob and a healthy nitrate reading as well. Rule no 1 if you can see gravel, you haven't got enough plants
nitirite of 5 is not good, I would be changing some water out and stop feeding!

Shall do a 1/3rd change out first thing tomorrow Faye.. Only put in a small amount of Cucumber tonight & shall remove any uneaten pieces in the morning...

the yabbies will attack and kill your goldies. they are too slow and get a bit to close. also the yabbies will punch on is such a small area. I don't thing that you little girl is going to like seeing half eaten gold fish.
By the video it seems that the GB drains when dumping into the tank are going to throw your goldies around a bit, don't think they will like that to much.

Hi there Matt..
The goldfish will not be going back into the barrel until the IBC's are up & running... That will make me get my butt into gear that bit quicker as I want them out of the house & into a bigger tank where they will be happier... Just need to get a DD's party out of the way on Saturday then get stuck into the AP site..
The Yabbies are going into 700L or so tank by themselves in the big set up so don't think there will be a problem there...
I also have a few Ideas on modifying the draining of the GB's to take some of the turbulence out of it so think all should be good... I know it was an issue that probably contributed to their stress..

nitrates have gone back up to 80..

There are some broccoli seed that have shot so hopefully we will see the "nates" drop over the week...

Started the IBC chop up today & got some bits to finish the site off but that's for another thread in the next few days...

I think the system may nearly be there...
Nitrites are down to 1-2ppm with the Ammonia being .25ppm... Nitrates are at about 20...
Had a busy weekend & need to start up a new thread on the IBC's now, or maybe tomorrow...
