I think I have one iceberg seedling popping up. Unless I accidentally dropped a seed in the wrong pot. I'll see how it goes.

Thanks to Aquanator, I've got plenty of rocks now. And thanks for Greg for helping me load them all up!

I also got my little pump for pulling out the poop from the bottom of the large RFF. It's now all concreted in place, so I bloody well hope it never needs to be replaced.

It's hard to see the little pump at the bottom of the pipes, but I can choose to either pipe it back into the system, or pump it into a bucket.

It was getting dark, so the photos aren't great. But you can get the idea. Just enough room to reach into the holes and turn the valves.

And the walls:

Coming together.

you are going to have a bugger of a time getting that pump out!

could you not have put some flex hose between the pump and pipework?

The pump only works below the water level, and which meant a hole below the ground. Plus when it's surrounded by concrete, I won't have to worry about leaks or anything.

I'm guessing that since it'll only get turned on for a few minutes every few weeks, it should last for some considerable time.

Plus I wanted to hide it all.

Iceberg. Dead ahead!

It sprouted. Slow to sprout, but sprouted. I'll see if it goes any further.

And cause I'm in a picture mood:

I've gotten 54 salads out of this green bed so far, and it's still powering on. It was getting a little dark for the photo, but I'm happy with it!

And the reason why you don't put top heavy plants in DWC:

However, snow peas seem to enjoy it:

And it's the middle of winter, and my tomatoes are still growing. I had a clean out of the rest of the bed, and will string up the rest of them, but I'm surprised it'd still going:

Well the first tank is coming along nicely.

All sealed, and the majority of the rock work is done. Thanks to aquanator for the rocks. I managed to break up the monster rocks eventually, and they are far more manageable. Took a lot of hammering and chiseling though.

Once the second tank is done, I'll do some nice landscaping around it.

A week for the paint to dry, then I can swap the water/fish over, and start on the other side.

The thing I'm not sure about, sandstone, would it be PH neutral? I've got it untreated in my waterfall/return part, there is some clear pond sealer that I could paint on it, but I'm not sire if it needs it.

if I was you I'll throw a bit of muratic acid on it and see if it fizz for myself. That should answer your concerns.

Sandstone is mostly quartz, it's not going to influence the pH.

Cool, good to know with the sandstone.

I tried the vinegar test on the sandstone, and nothing. But I'm paranoid about how good it is, I did the same test on some of the concrete, and it didn't fizz, but it's supposed to be well known that the cement will react and increase PH.

concrete reaction with vinegar is quite slow.. hence the reason I state to use muratic acid.. its instantaneous .. dasboot is correct though but to rectify that concerns u can dilute the muratic acid and test it on concrete and monitor the fizz then try that same mixture on the sandstone to see if the fizz is more or less.. thats the best test.
