Yeah, unusual way of cutting up the IBC - interested to see what you do

yeah, hope this doesn't ruine your mood.

but I would have cut the cages perpendicular to the cut you made. i.e. they would look exactly the same but the top tube fastening holes would be on either side of the grow beds, not at the bottom of them (this is what it looks like you've done, ignore me if this is not the case). That way you could screw the top bars back on as a brace for the side of the liner.

You'll have to attach something else now...which shouldn't be too hard in itself though.

I did this with my very first set up many moons ago. You actually get more GB for your buck. I just cut a piece of angle iron and tucked it in behind then fastened it with some 'U' bolts on each end. But the options are endless really.

Why do you get more than cutting it the way I said. The cage around the GB should look exactly the same? You'll just be cutting it in the dirrection parallel to the piece of wood in the last pic, as opposed to parallel with the piece of angle iron.

Am I correct in thinking the cages are 1.2Wx1.2Lx1H....or have I got my dimensions wrong

I meant rather than cutting it horizontally. The IBC that is.

1Wx1.2Dx1.05H (+0.1 for base), so cutting front to back gets more surface area than side to side..

Okay, so ignore me then. What you gain from using the top bars you will loose in growth area. Have to weight it up I guess.

Yeah I think you get slightly more surface area, but it is pretty close.
I cut it that way so that I could support each GB by the same method.

Yep will support it like Charlie's photo, thanks for that !

As you can see from the pics, I cut the GBs too big, the curved section from the tap recess is kinda in the way, and they just kinda look a bit big to do you think ?

Getting there slowly.
I discovered I can fit 26 full size besser blocks into a 2002 toyota camry. I reckon I could fit about 36 but the suspension might be on the blocks at that point. The poor old girl scraped a bit reversing into the driveway

Got all the bricks levelled and set up one growbed. Thats when I realised I need to go 5 blocks high and not 4 as I thought. So I still need 4 more bricks. Really wishing I just bought 2x IBCs now, better solution and cheaper

What do you think about going 5 blocks high with 700kg or so ? So annoying because I will need to make a "boardwalk" or similar just to reach the back of the growbed. You can see the pink stringline that shows the top of the FT. Even at 5 blocks it just gives enough room for the drain pipes from the GBs. The water level is below that ,so I will have to chop a hole in the top edge of the FT.
If I had the inclination I would pull apart the entire system and dig the FT into the ground by 8in or so. At the moment it is sitting on clay bricks because it was easier to level those. Now Im regretting the height of the damn thing.
