I couldn't get cucumber to survive over winter, too cold, sounds like you did better :D

I just noticed your location. Humpty doo, I had to google it to make sure you didn't make it up. Your town name is hilarious. Seriously!

Winter... or what we call winter is night temps around 10 degrees c and day temps 30 degrees c, so winter is better for most of the plants here.

Yes, my missus always says don't make jokes about town names, the chance is very high that we gonna move there.

small update, the tomatoes are growing fantastic. The lettuce is starting to suffer from the not yet build up heat, I need to make another layer of shade cloth over the dwc, hope that helps.

Time is a little bit rare at the moment as I am starting to build soon... 6 by 15m shed plus 6 by 6m carport and 6 by 6m patio area and the target is to be finished before the wet starts.

I have some new cucumber plants going in tomorrow but unfortunately is the egg plant dying with 8 fruits on it which are still very small but the skin shows already the signs of being too long on the plant... The last one we cooked two days ago was very bitter and had the same skin marks.

We tried to catch one 2 with a 35 pound handline two weeks ago and the Barra snapped the line and swallowed the lure completely. He came up as a floater 4 days later unfortunately. We tried on the same day again but they became shy after it happened. Took 2 or 3 days for them to start feeding again properly. I think that's the real disadvantage of having such a deep tank, if the fish wants to hide it can.

Great looking tomatoes Gwydion.

On the fish harvesting you might need to put the flippers & snorkel on :D

So if your tomatoes are a sign of the season ahead, I'm excited :)

Red and yellow pear (but the taste of the yellow ones you have to get used to... Little sweet and not much tomato taste), pink Thai egg which are my favorite asset the moment and the large one are tropical / darwin type, they are a little bit floury and split easily if left until ripe.

There are so many fruit on it, we can't keep up with eating anymore.

Have you tried 'souix' tomato? They are great tasting and good for warmer climates - also wapapincon peach and amazing fruity zingy taste and have little hAirs that are supposed to keep fruit fly away

Have you grown those Thai toms before Gwydion?
I've planted out a few into my wicking beds because I was told they can fruit right through till February. If this is the case I think I'll get a few more planted if I can get the seed.

It's the second year (new plants). At some point the plant dies because it is powered out i guess... But i have a new one growing up which just got lots of fruit for the second season this year. I think the heat is the biggest problem which leads to splitting in the fruit. I got a couple growing between the growbeds which never seen any direct sunlight and it makes no change to the fruit. Which means i think i have to get some stronger shade cloth to cool them down in the wet.

I've set my wicking needs up with some flexible pipe in case they needed shade in the coming months. And for rain cover when the monsoon arrives.

When do you put it up?

The shade cloth is on all year round. I am thinking about second layer. The first is the cheap stuff from Bunnings 65% in green.
