Yep, the little fish dont have a chance in a FT that size, actually either do the yabbies, they will evenutally knock each other off as they moult.

Good luck :)

Sweet, keep an eye on the little yabbs too mate. They moult often when young and it slows with age.

Charlie can you tell when a female is carrying babies?

noticed odd behavior in main FT, Yabbie lurking around in the shallows near some rocks with tail tucked up tight?

Looked odd but it was gone by the time I'd grabbed my scoop net so don't know what was going on?

Just caught her, yep got lots of large berries/babies on her.

She looks a little lost, should I take out and put her in the baby tank?

or is there a better nest I can do for her?

Well I caught and put her in the divided baby tank. some of the babies were already jumping off so may have lost a few?

Was another "hen" with some berries in the FT but I left her there, check her out in a few days.

Glad to see that you fixed the pH high issue..

At what lvl are you trying to have you pH.. if neutral There is a simple way to do so..

Juergen..

since the plaster on the walls no longer has an effect you will need to artificially introduce pH up to your system..

Shell Grit is the Cheapest way to do that.. Plus add an extra filter media to the system..

not sure how many of the little guys there are, maybe 30 or so.

some of them got into the side with the first batch, but seem to be able to keep out of there claws.

The first batch are between 25 and 45mm long

Slowboat, if that is a standard sized dinner plate those yabbies are on then they are good sized yabbies, indeed! What is your secret to get them that size? I've been loading mine up with cracked lupins and have seen some good growth but it's not in the same league as yours.

I wish, they are on a side plate, albeit a good sized one.

However I was actually quite satisfied after eating them.

well the deck over the pool is back on the agenda.

Picked up some steel beams cheap on gumtree, all I need is joists and decking.

thinking of using structural plywood for the deck surface, thus no crap dropping into FT through board gaps.

I have enough steel to support more than 10 tonnes of media.

while i have the nail gun in hand thought I'd make the GB from plywood lined with LDPE.

Is there enough room to get in to get the fish? Will you be able to see the fish once you are in? Are you doing anything to make sure the steel does not come in contact with AP water? Just a few questions before you build that setup that will make me stupidly jealous. :notworthy:

Be Jealous Ron,

there will be a 1.2m opening at the far end of deck to the FT,

good point on the light, will probably leave the ends of deck open for light and ventilation.

The steel is painted and will not be near water at all.

will also have a hatch to enter the shallow end of pool and maybe a catwalk below the deck and over the water from the existing steps to the shallow end.

also thinking of marine carpet for the deck top?
