ruperto, it's still good to check things before i do a mess :) i will definetly stand back hehe, thanks
in time, there will be water running all around the house bwahaha

jaymie, we've built that garage ourselves and hmm i don't know if that even matters but i don't think we have an insurance on that pile of concrete, i'll ask my father about that, good point :)

do you two work in AP sense or is it just a passion at home?how is AP accepted at your place?

p.s.

just talked to my father about this, and we've came to a conclusion that there's no worries, about the insurance...he just said that if it collapses, we won't need to do it :) so...hehe, it was cheap to build, that's what he means

that's pretty good actually, i guess it cuts down on the vegetables budget, as the prices are crazy right now.

i'm having some problem with feed lines, when i first designed the system it was ment for another pump with smaller outlet diameter(3/4"), the new pump has an 5/4" outlet, so i had to reduce it down to 3/4 and as a result i have problems with pressur losses, whic are too big and i can't get all the buckets filled with water....so

i'm remodeling the feed lines a little bit, gonna put it on 5/4 and just leave the 3/4 lines leading to the buckets, so one 5/4, feeding 4 ×3/4 lines....my father had a good idea on how to fix valves on that 5/4 PE pipe without buying those expensive T fittings
and we are gonna fabricate these...

if anyone is facing the same problems perhaps, just for info

this is called being inexperienced in big stuff:)

finally the system is moving to the point that i'll be able to introduce some fish! had a final shot at some pump that my father brought home(0,6kW inline pump, 6m3/h) and it has quite a push(22m) and it works like heelllll i tell ya :) feels like we have a waterfall right in front of our house :)

me and family have really put our forces togheter, i've bought some gravel(8-19mm), about 1,5m3. we've washed it togheter and we have almost finished the work, got short of gravel for 3 barrels

everything started on a beautiful sunny monday morning...had a proud father-son look on our greenhouse and felt the grattitude to my folks while i was standing there :)

we had quite a gravel-washing-facility hehe, me an my brother on the photo lifted the gravel up on the platform with the fork lift and then poured it in the buckets while my father and my girl washed it down there...it's nice to work with the family

oh and my aquarium is crazy, the chilli plant has overgrown the basil and everything, and i have 3 chillies growing on that bush. the basils keep growing, despite the maaaasssiveee aphid infestation. and i've put a clone of oregano in, just a few days ago and it's already growing new shots - will take some photos

so,

-gotta get some ffiissh
-and isolation for the FT + a roof
-some sun screen

enjoy the photos!

Congratulations! It's a feel-good project all around. It's really nice that your friends and family are helping. The greenhouse looks so much better than just a bare garage roof!

What kind of fish are in the plans?

What a difference you made adding a storey to that garage, it's great to follow your progress, can't wait to see your fish and veges. Roll on the first harvest. What season do you have there and what do you plan to grow?

hello everybody!

ruperto i'm glad everything is OK too, that roof was supposed to hold 10t/m2, so i might add some more beds later on :) good to see you around!

thanks on the compliments dave, i have a good feeling too
although i have stumbled upon a problem, regarding the fish yes hehe :)
i was planning on doing trout, but i have a feeling that it will be hard to control the temps in the 15°C area, i can do 20, but 15 is a little low for summer temps that reach 35°C deg sometimes
so the best idea would be to grow two species, cyprinus carpio in the summer and trout in the winter

anyone tried growing trout in the 20-23°C area? cos i can get trout easily, other species are more $$ away from me :) ----> ap system is quite suprising to me cos i have all the species togheter that i shouldn't have(supposed to) and on diff. temps then i was supposed to, but still, the fish seem happy so far in my aquarium.....that's why i am tempted to use the trout as an experiment bunny on higher temps then 15°C

what do you think?

faye i'm planning to grow every vegetable and plant that is somehow usefull in its own way
my gf has made a list of all her fav. veggies so, you know it's a long list :)it's beautiful here right now, it's spring and everything is green and blooming. thanks for stoppin by again !

Trout can be grown at 20 ish, (mine are at the moment) aparently west australian trout can take a slightly higher temp. I am just trying to get the perch a bit bigger, then I will drop the temps down.

If they are easy and cheap to get - try them :)

I try not to kill mine due to it being ~ 1500km round trip for more :?

From http://aqua-culture.blogspot.com/2007/0 ... lture.html

Rainbow trout is a coldwater species and requires water temps less than 68°F year-round for optimum growth. They may survive at somewhat higher temps, but with little or no growth and high stress levels.

hmm so basically you'r saying trout will not grow in the 20 area?
outback i just feel bad kind off knowing that these conditions will probably kill or stress them
the main problem here is DO leves as i see it. so even if i maximize the water saturation at 20-23°C the trout's metabolism will not work properly at 20-23°C, because the warmer the water gets, less oxygen it can take, 100% saturation is achieved at 15°C, with 10mg/l of O2(at sea level)

do you know any good warmwater species that are available to european market?
i've looked at coi carps and such, although tilapia seems far more delicious but i don't think i can get it here in slovenia, at least i haven't found a breeder yet.

the first water temp test was made with no gravel, just pumping the water 24/7 with no shade on the greenhouse or the FT, the temps have definetly exceeded 20°C over the day, but even with all the shade available i don't think i can drop the temps to 15deg over our hottest months(june, july, august), when the temps are on average about 20deg.

what do you think?

Was googling around after having read your thread Molj..... would seem that trout are probably very much a goer...

If you average 20 C through the "hottest" months... then with a bit of shadecloth.... maybe....the heat transfer from your growbeds might be a problem in summer..... remember though it's the water temp that's important not your air temp...

But hey..... there does seem to be a history of trout production in Slovenia... and there is/was at least two native species...

Quote:
In Slovenia, the Adriatic basin inhabited by native marble trout (S. marmoratus), and the Danubian basin inhabited by native Danubian lineage of brown trout (S. trutta) have been intensively affected by stocking with non-native trout strains. ...
Among the wild populations, five marble and one brown trout populations were found to be pure; all the others were introgressed with exotic alleles (Atlantic and marmoratus alleles in the Danubian basin and Atlantic and Danubian in the Adriatic basin) that markedly dominate in intensively managed populations....
Our research showed that it is not only marble trout whose identity is endangered in Slovenia but also the existence of autochthonous Danubian brown trout is critically compromised, which is new information to be taken into account for local trout conservation.

Don't know where you're situated Molj... but there certainly seems to be a history of trout both native and non-native in Slovenia.

The articles seem to indicate a preferred water temp of 15 C.... certainly sounds like trout are viable through winter... maybe 9mths of the year??

Apparantly the purest and most viable population of the marbled trout can be found in the Soča river and surrounding waterways...

Quote:
The Soča trout is famous for its relatively large head and a characteristic marbled colour pattern on a grey-white skin. The pattern can range in colour from dark-gray, olive-green, copper-red to yellow-brown. In several varieties of the marble trout, this pattern can be interrupted by a varying number of red spots. The largest marble trout specimen in Slovenia weighed 25 kilos and was 121 cm long although the fish of 50 – 70 cm are more the norm.

Pollution, habitat destruction and hybridization of the native species with the brook trout, which was brought to this natural habitat at the beginning of the 20th century, have made the Soča trout one of the most endangered freshwater fish species of the Adriatic Basin. The Soča trout rehabilitation programme which is being implemented in the upper reaches of the Soča basin has already seen marked results: it has improved knowledge of the biology and ecology of the marble trout and led to increase in the number of genetically pure Soča trout in Slovenian rivers.

Maybe you could chase up some of the conservation and rehabilitation groups... might be able to get some stock from them...

Gee, if you could get them through... especially to broodstock.... they'd probaly collaborate with you... maybe even look at a grant :D

Some links and references for you..... contact your local fisheries department Molj... sounds like aquaculture isn't new to Slovenia...
