Hmmm didn't know that trick rope, thanks. I always copied the link from the browser and changed the 'start' variable so that the post I wanted to link to was at the top...
Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Jaymie! :) I notice an unusually high proportion of members have their birthday on Jan 1st ... I wonder what annual amorous event occurs ~9 months beforehand? :wink:

Is sea salt the same stuff as pool salt? I've got some Homebrand Cooking Salt & am wondering if that would be ok to put in my system?

You could be onto something there TT. :)

It turns out my 2.5 tonne of river rocks was more than enough to fill 4 growbeds. I didn't know what to do with the excess gravel, so I added another growbed to my system. F@#%! ... all that extra gravel washing nearly killed me! :( The 5th growbed isn't plumbed into the rest of my system yet, but there's no hurry.

I sprinkled some basil seeds on a couple of growbeds before I went away & they popped up a few days ago ... or so I thought! After a bit more growth I discovered that they are actually self-seeded angophora trees!

I can't think of a more INAPPROPRIATE plant for AP! (A sequoia maybe?)

See that big tree in the last picture? The 25m one in my neighbour's backyard? Well that's an angophora ... can you imagine one of those suckers growing out of my GB!!? :D

I am constantly pulling baby Iron-barks and Fig Trees out of the growbeds.

My system is cycled. :cheers:

ammonia=0
nitrites=0
nitrates=40
PH=6.6

Fishies are arriving today! (100 Silver Perch fingerlings)

The PH has been dropping steadily since I started my system (see graph). I have bought some shellgrit but have not used any yet. I am thinking that I might wait a few days before adding it so the fish (hopefully introduced later today) are more comfortable ...

Is this good logic? or should I be trying to buffer PH with shellgrit already?

that pH is low, cycling will continue to pull it down.
The shellgrit just sits there until it is needed. I put a 25kg bag in the sump, check on it every now and then.
