And how would I add an extra 1000L? Fill the growbed, aerate for a day, ph adjust before it goes to the tank?

I filled it up, and let it sit for a few days before hooking it up to the system. Seems to have done the trick.

Well!! Hooked it all up (minus media and filter) to make sure it all works as planned.

Water will be pumped into the light blue barrel which will be filled with media, which will drain into the other barrel which will have some filter (shade cloth/filter pad) and that drains into the DWC bed.
All seems to work so I'll take the plumbing apart and glue it all together.

Thanks Jayendra. It's taken longer to finish than I had hoped. My son just had one of those annoying weeks where he wouldn't leave me alone. (He is 19 months old)

Will be up and running by next weekend I hope.

I can't wait to fill it up with seedlings :D

Looks good Rob. Any reason you are going bf over rf?
Can you isolate your filters to clean them when required?
Drains for barrels?

I'd check pH and add daily in increments.

Thanks guys.

If I understand bf and rf, basically so I can grow dragonfruit in the half barrel with media and am thinking of putting duckweed in the other as it always holds a level of water.
If this doesn't work as I hope, I can put a radial flow barrel in before the media barrel.

Few current pics.
I got my polystyrene for the top. Just need to cut the holes in it and chuck it on top.
Got a couple bits of scrap to practice cutting on. Turned them into seedling trays.
How far apart is suggested for the holes for growing things like basil. I think I remember reading about 20cm for lettuce.
Has anyone tried strawberries in a raft?
Might add some chelated iron tomorrow. The new growth on some of the bok choi is a little yellow.
Apart from that, all is good. Still showing an ammonia level of between 0.5 and 1. No nitrites and nitrates are about 160.

Red cabbage, pak choi, bok choi, peas area all motoring on. Broccolini was slow to start with but getting some good growth now.

Cheers
Rob

Done a bit more today on the upgrade.
Drilled all the holes and chucked some bamboo around the sides to make it look a bit nicer.
Have the ph close to the tanks. Tank is 6.3 and growbed is 6.6. Will drop it a bit more before I chuck it online.

That bed looks really neat now with the bamboo. It will look even better when it's overflowing with greenery. The whole expansion is very schmick actually - nice work Rob :)
