Should I dig a hole, put all the remaining trouts in there, close it back up and drain the tank and start again?

In regards to bacteria colony, I doubt there was any bacteria in the growbeds.

Nah... unless you've got the water to do it... how long ago did you dose the tank??

Would seem that with the rain ... that you've probably diluted it down anyway...

If the rest of the fish seem OK... and you can do it... set up a tank with normal water in sunlight and bubble it for a day to get rid of the chlorine... and change out the fish tank water progressively....

Rainwater would be best... oxygenate like heck and maybe double your pump cycles ...

Unfortunately I don't really have a spare tank, that's why I resorted to using water ager. Maybe I can do some water changes without the ager gradually over the next few days.

Shit Ivan you have a better job than me, dam quiet ATM so what better than spending time in here
A lot of stuffing around, but if you have a Bathtub fill it up and let sit for a day or so and bucket water to your system, borrow buckets and containers and fill them up could be another plan, clean wheelie bin, or even get hold of a IBC you may be able to borrow one or I think you can find them for around $70, can also incorporate into your system later

Well that depends on what you consider a better job. I don't have much work this whole week, hence like you said, spending more time here.

Well I will try to do some water changes with buckets.

Ivan,

I am in Canning Vale and I use water out of the tap.
Just airate with airstones for 12 hours then put it in.

As far as your problems go you will just need to hang in there.
Like OBO said in my thread it is cold and things just go slow and bad things happen to a new system. Hopefully next winter when our systems are more mature we will be able to survive through the cold weather with good winter vegi growth.

Only one thing I can see that you have to do Ivan....

Go away on holiday.... Or get Jennifer to chain you inside the house so you can't get near the system....

You just have to leave it, it has only been 4 weeks since the system was started and you just can't hurry nature, the more you play, the worse it might get...

Top the tank up straight from the hose, and leave it be... Stop feeding, leave the remaining fish for the next two to three weeks with only a small feed every 3-4 days. In two to three weeks the system will be cycled and everything will be plain sailing.

Don't worry about the low stocking levels if you only have about 10 fish left it will be fine...

Look at this picture below, Carl has only got about 75 fish in this

Damn you should have told me earlier about the holiday before I handed my money over. Too late now, so holiday is out of the question.

Well the fishes in the tank has eaten since Sunday, I think. I will try that, not sure if I will still have 10 fishes. Will probably need to check for dead bodies daily and maybe need an ammonia replacement if the fishes are all gone before the system cycles.

Ivan ,, have a holiday AT HOME,, stop friggen with the system:)
Mate I have a tropical fish tank ..... NEVER taken water readings , clean the filter maybe once per 3 months fill it up straight from the tap,, near never cleaned the gravel. 7 years and I still got my fish. I feed them when I feel like feeding them and just make sure there is plenty of bubbles and a comfortable temperature,, simple easy relaxed , just like a holiday:)

This thread reads like a three stooges movie.

Simply put ,, you have a NEW system , purchased at a time of year were cycling will take longest , you had no plan for cycling before getting fish and have continually played with things so much that it looks like a dog chasing it's tail.

PLEASE do not take these comments as anger ,, they are not.

If I was you I would STOP listening to every persons ideas ( including mine) , choose 2 or 3 of the more experienced members listen , wait , listen , be patient. Most importantly STOP mucking around with everything.

Sermon5 is Sunday at 10:00am
