If you must know, my Silverbeet tree is named Rupert.... I tore off a few limbs the other night... He didn't feel a thing.... They grew back though... :)

Sliced up, steamed. Then 2 eggs, nuked in the microwave. Topped with tomato, a bit of cheese and breadcrumbs... Voila... Quick snack...

I drop my fish in ice water before cleaning, and let them rest there for a half hour. Kills them quickly so they don't wiggle during cleaning. Safety precaution.

The sudden shock will kill them, I think. Even it it is typically a temperature that they could take if they acclimated to it gradually as in nature.

The tilapia are so wiggly, and actually will vibrate on the cutting board, that I find a need to slow them down before applying a knife.

I always snap their necks right away. Is the method I have always used for fishing. Just put your fingers into gill area and pull head right back.
